b4 i was planning on spending big on my studio . . i thought since IVE NEVER recorded before in a studio id start with a cheap equipment . . . i was thinking a ub1204-pro-fx . . and either a Delta 44 or a Fostex MR8 . . il be using my current computer . . the downside with the Delta 44 is that i have to move my computer, i mean remove all the wires and bring it to my studio around 20 steps away . . on another house . . . what a hassle!! but with the fostex, i can just leave the fostex in my studio and record whenever i want and transfer it using the smartmedia (p.s : im gonna buy a 512mb) but the downsidee on the mr8 is that i only have 2 inputs and not that much flexibility . . . i need your help guys!!!

So your PC is not in the studio itself, or close enough to run a cable or two to the room you use? If I read that right, the studio is in a differant house? That might make things a tad sticky, but there are ways around it. For the price of the MR8 you are almost at the price of building a PC just for the studio. If you build it yourself you will save some big money, and it will be upgradable at any time.

what i was planning is buying a NICE computer for my room . . to replace this computer . . and this computer will go straight to my studio . . BUT! that nice computer will cost me around $500 . . and that has no Mixer, Mics, and the Soundcard . . if i buy a sucky computer worth $300 then im stuck with 2 sucky computers . . i want to spend as little as possible . .

im thinking, of just buying a mixer first . . something like a UB1204-FXPRO . . then using my SB live's Line in . . . yes i know, the quality will suck . . but i have no choice . . i will wait until august for my birthday using this setup, then il get a better sound card . . . what im planning is putting all four mics in the mixer, then panning all of them hard left or hard right, then take the main left or right then buying a XLR to 1/8" from Radio Shack then plugging it in the Sound Disaster's Line in . . will it work??

what if you track on one computer, the one with the Delta 44, and then burn all your wav files to CD-R and do everything else on the other PC?

Then you need to network the PCs so you can transfer files of that size more easily...but it IS a viable option, networking is cheap and pretty easy.

you said it was in another house? next door i assume?

i once concidered running rj45 out my window to my neighbor's house... we were gonna get a router and share a cable connection back before i had mine :O) it was only gonna be and extra $5/month for another IP. he moved and we never got to try it out, but the thick blue industrial grade stuff we had seemed pretty weatherproof.

yes, i can do that but the prob is there is no computer in my "Studio" . . . thats why i have to buy a new computer or use THIS computer, bringing it to the other house then bringing it back when im done . .

I guess to be honest, I would wait till you can do the other PC as it sounds as though you can get it much cheaper then the pain the MR8 will cause. and by that I mean the fiel transfer headache, the converting of files is not easy when using those types of recording devices. they compress files with their own proprietary formats, and it is usually and inferior program that will have to do the dirty work of converting files to edit in the PC after the fact. So I guess, be patient and get the other PC, it will save ya in the long run.
