Edit: belay that, had a 400 bad request on trying to upload (wonder if it's a mime issue?) So I'm popping it up over on my soundcloud.

Called it Carvin' not really blues, but kinda has some elements of it.

I put this little ditty together a couple months ago what with being inspired by the blues collab we're doing. Wanted to try recording my Miniak thorough my Carvin amp. (got an AG100D last fall, and been working nicely so far)

I used an Audio Technica MB3k dynamic mic on the amp, and a Karma mini-condenser over by the window to my right. Unfortunately, my xboard controller's keys are hideously loud, so I tried my best to EQ them out. They were mostly audible on the far mic, so it didn't hurt the overall sound too badly.

The synth keys are a bit "warm and fluffy" sounding, and I think the amp accentuated that a bit. Could probably use a little cut in the lower mids, or maybe a little lower hehe.

I played without a metronome, and was "having fun" so I didn't worry too much about timing. So there is some ebb and flow to the timing. :P

Sounds really cool! I like that synth a lot! The warmth and fluffiness suits it just fine if you ask me. And here I was thinking amping and mic'ing a hardware synth wasn't beneficial in any way...wrong again. I've learned to assume that everything I think is most likely wrong...at least that way I'm right most of the time lol

Also like that having fun is "in quotes", had a good lolling. I've been traveling/working for 14 hours now so maybe I'm just easily amused at this point. Ready to watch some hbo and kick back...not yet...not yet.

Yeah, the synth patch is almost like a wurlitzer EP, but less wobble and more steroids lol. Gotta admit it's a tasty sound. xD But yeah, definitely worth it to experiment and think outside the box a bit. I mean, didn't stop the big name bands and producers from doing it, right? :)

I do think some sounds work better through the amp than others of course. (mostly being that my amp is mono some of the more stereo-happy synthy/spacey and paddy sounds might work better through a stereo amp)

I think a good clean amp sound works well with keyboard and synth sounds, but it needs to be like a keyboard or acoustic amp: something that can put out the full spectrum of sounds. A good bass amp might work too I think.

Mine's a 100W 3-channel acoustic amp, so there's a channel for guitar, bass, and one for tape/CD/vox or backing stuff. So I think it does pretty well for putting out a good range of sounds. (Of course, I've got my keyboard plugged into the tape/CD channel.)

Also, I think you'll like the blues collab once we get it done xD I'm playing the keys parts, and getting some work done right now, but I'm using a sampled piano I came across. Salamander Grand Piano, in sfz format. Loads pretty well in the old sfz player (not sfz+) Didn't work so well in the Alchemy player freebie. A couple keys were on the wrong octave. It's a bit warm for a piano sound, but it is very full sounding. Not as good as say, Pianoteq or the big name libraries, but definitely sounds good.

I may play around with the electric keys sounds for the blues as well though. I like to play around with sounds and styles. hehe.
