NEED help with USB mixer!!! :(

So I'm to the point of insanity with this.

I have a Behringer Xenyx USB 1204. I record just fine and everything, but I get so mad because it summs up the signals into 2 stereo signals. I'm only using inputs 1 and 2, so I'm trying to figure out a way to like make them both mono(so I could individually edit both, sorta like multitracking in a way) but when I pan the tracks left and right NOTHING happens. I hear it panned thru the headphones, but they just record summed up. Splitting the stero signa to mono does nothing, both channels are mixed together on both sides. UGH. And I an using reaper.
also whenever I pan something right it just goes away, no signal. All I'm trying to do is pan input 1 left and input 2 right instead of them being summed together. helpp!!

It sounds like an issue with the recording software--if you pan, say, a guitar and voice, live, into the mixer hard left and hard right, then the software should record it that way. How are you getting the signal in? Via USB, I presume. It should be carrying the L and R signals in, separated, to the software. So, send in two signals, via two separate channels (1 + 2), panned hard L and R (in the Xenyx), and it should deliver two separate, unmixed signals to Reaper. Is this what you are doing?

sounds like ya need to set two separate individual tracks up in your recording software....try assigning input one to record on track one, and input 2 to track 2...sounds like yer recording onto one track stereo (1+2)

Hey thanks so much. Was able to get it to work. ahh i was freaking out alright. turns out the way i was recording in reaper was with DirectSound which like mixed both track together, so all i did was switch the recording device to WDM Kernel Streaming and that fixed it. thanks though :)
