I record using sony sound forge on my laptop. At the moment im using a behringer ultravoice mic pluged into the input of my ultragain pro then the output is going straight into my laptop mic in.
Im pretty sure that is wrong and the mic should be the output but i dont seem to have any way of doing that with the leads i have.
Im sure there is something i can plug it into as well as the preamp to then go to the laptop, would that sourt out the noise?
Heres a link to a short clip of it:

Thankyou for your time,

Tim

i think the issue is likely that you are putting the preamp into a "mic in". Do you have a "line in" on your laptop? The mic port boosts the signal it receives, but you are already boosting the signal with the pre-amp... so the double boost causes trouble.

This might work:
Go to control panel and select hardware and sound. Select manage audio devices under the sound heading. Then select the recording tab. Double click on microphone/line in. Select levels tab. Then pull the microphone boost down to 0.0db. This procedure works for windows 7. It should be something similar on XP or vista I would imagine. But this should effectively give you a line in instead of mic in if you only have one audio input jack.

Coolo already mentioned that you are running a line level signal into your mic in. This will overdrive the signal. You need to plug into a line in or better still, skip the builtin soundcard and get an external one.

You can either run your mic directly into your laptop mic in (not recommended) or you will need to go mic->ultragain->ux1->laptop

This is just one option. If you let us know what kind of music etc you want to record there may be other options.

Um, the sample you uploaded is about 1 second long... that is not so useful to tell what is happening. Also, have you checked the gain settings on the ultragain pro? Maybe you have it turned up too high?

Otherwise, if you get a USB soundcard/audio interface, you will be good to go.
