Hello all,

I've got a new tune up called, "Did You Know". The mix is very rough... using my headphones. Been busy lately, and had a family crisis this weekend... Sheesh inlaws!!! Nobody hurt or anything but someone did end up in jail! Wow!

Sorry for the vent... On a lighter note, the new song is located here:

Very very, pop kind of thing

As usual, I am impressed with your guitar playing abilities....not bad mix for headphones..I'd like to hear a little more energy in the vocals(if that makes any sense to you). The song is quite a departure from your other stuff....Yup.very 'pop'.very catchy tune. I guess that's what pop tunes are supposed to be so you got it right.

Indeed, very catchy little pop tune there. I like the arrangement, nice bit of a hook there. I will agree with WW on the vical thing though, could use maybe a little compression on the lead vocal. May I ask which mic you use for the vocal track. It sounds like the Rode maybe. I would try using the MK-319 as that will adda bit of warmth to the vocal track. Her voice seems to have the presance, but the mids are being detracted by the higher end on the vocal track.

All in all, great tune though, and once again nice guitar work.

Hello,

Yes, I did use the Rode on vocals. I also didn't even eq the vocal yet. I think the vocal energy might by there but the vocal sound is just pretty raw... just used the mackie pre with nothing on it yet(except a little reverb). The MK-319 does sound a little warmer but I get some really bad sibilance from my wife's voice from that mic... Plus, she doesn't like that one... he he... women...(sorry gals)

I'm gonna work on the mix in the next few days and post the results

BTW: even with the rough mix...this song is more liked by the average non-musician type.. (ie your average Joe or Jane) hmmm? must be the Pop in it...

Thanks for your input

The Rode is a very crisp mic even recorded flat, that was why I thought it might be the Rode. I love my 319 because it doesnt get much sibalance. But then again mine is an older model, it was #1204 to be exact and I think they had a tendancy to be a little rounder sounding back then. If she is game you could try hitting the pad and that will knock 10dB off the incoming signal, and for some reason I have seen it lesson the sibalance on occasion. But Im not gaurantying yours will do the same. And I agree that you might pull the power of her voice up with a bit of EQ magic.

And like I said, the pop thing is in the hook and there seems to be a catchy one there. I know it stuck in my head that night and the next morning.

Hey, I'd never heard your stuff before. You have a distinctive style and your mixes are so clean! I especially like Blue Sunrise. I like the arrangement and I could easily think it to be Satriani stuff if I didn't know it was you. Keep up the recording!

this was a poppy sort of track. the mix is pretty solid, some eq would definitely help. personally, id pull the bass line down just a lil bit. the vox could use a lil compression. some good guitar work going as well. cool stuff though.

noize: wow. i just looked for my #. im #13407. theyve made a lot of mics since yours.. and theyre still relatively unknown by most home recording people. i love the sound of my mic. i can see myself using this mic forever.
