How long do Mics last on average?

I have a BLUE Bluebird that I have used on average about 5 hours/week for the past 4 years in a smoke-free studio. It runs through a Focusrite Voicemaster Platinum and I case it after every use.

Should I be expecting it to "go bad" at some point or do they last a long time if you take care of them right?

Good question. I really have no idea. I would GUESS that they would last a lifetime given the amount of vintage mics that are out there. Might need the capsule replaced at sometime but otherwise what is there to wear out?

Most large diaphragm condensers will last a life time. They don't really wear out. You might have some issues with the tubes in the preamp, but that's about it.

The only mics that I have ever had issues with are the Beyer Dynamic M88's and M69's. They get soft over time, and need the element replaced. But, that is about it. Unless you drop the mic, you should really never have any issues. And use time doesn't mean anything. Even thou the mic is off, it's still picking up signals. It's just not going trough the preamp.
