Hello, i am recording audio and i would like to know how to achieve this function:

I want to find a specific range of silence, say at least 1 sec of straight silence
and i want to either extend or shorten it.

I know how to shorten but i would like to extend it to 2.5 or 3 seconds

again, this is want I want

FIND 1s or more of straight silence

convert 1s to 2.5s

1s -->> 2.5s

thanks

I'm not familiar with Adobe Audition, but can you just cut out that much space within the track?

Why do you want to do that? I might be able to help if you let me know the intent.

Are you wanting to do this in the wav editor or the multitrack view?

If you are in wav editor mode, once you find the silence, go to insert -> silence, and then type in how much silence you want to add to the dialog box that pops up.

i am reading a story

but there will be pauses

If i always do roughly 1 sec of pause, i will spend less time in front of the mike if i can extend that 1s pause into a 2.5 sec pause

i do not want to find that silence and have to "insert silence" on every instance. I would rather spend more time in fron of the mike rather than do all that...

i hope you read this mister beer hunter :o)

Is the final product going to be a CD? If so you could insert a track marker at every pause. Then when making a CD just select a 2.5 second gap between tracks...
Not sure how you could automatically do it other than what coolo mentioned but that won't do it automatically.

wow, thats a stupid suggetion
by dB masters

i DON'T want to spend that extra time (each track is 50-60 minutes) if i can automatically extend the pauses and reduce the time to 35-40 minutes

i will be making 600 tracks total

thank you Beerhunter, tho for your help

Hmm, wonder if there isn't some way to quantize the pauses? Never had to do anything like that before so I'm gonna have to think about it for a bit. That is a hell of a lot of tracks. Can see why you want to automate.

I don't think it's possible, to tell you the truth...

I believe within Adobe Audition there is a "Insert Silence" option.

You simply highlight part of a waveform in edit view (in your case existing silence) and then locate in the menus the insert silence option and input no. of seconds duration.

cheers
