I just bought my self a set of Simmons Elec. Drums, and I want to record my drum tracks to my songs. I have a Line 6 UX2(pod farm) and I record my music with Cakewalk Homestudio 7...I also have 2 M-Audios that is currently plugged into my drums for sound. I know I can connect my monitors to my Interface, but I want to hear and record through my monitors as well....I also have a mono 1/4 split to 3.5MM that plugs into my computer....Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, I set up the set, and right now I have the monitors plugged in my UX2 through Analog Outs. Then from the Line Inputs I have it connected to my computer via 1/4 split to 1 3.5mm...I have my UX2 my main sound, so all sounds are coming from my computer....So how do I connect my drums so I can record?

You'll need to send the audio out from the drum module over to the analog inputs on your UX2. Then in software, you can record the audio that's coming from the drum module.

Connect your speakers to the UX2 audio outputs, which I think you have.

In your recording software, tell it to 'monitor' the incoming signal, so you can hear the incoming signal, plus your playback out of your monitors.

Sorry to be so late in a reply, holidays are busy.

Right on, I got to work....I think I am ready to upgrade my Interface, because the UX2, I cant find a way to get the drums to play very acousticy, if you know what I mean. Its def. not the drumset. Is there a way i can run my drums through a different program...like does EZ Drummer do something like that?

Sure can, though not by using the UX2. That device doesn't have MIDI in it, so you'll need something else.

I believe Maudio has a UNO or something like that, that is a USB -> MIDI plugin. So you can use it in addition to what the UX2 is doing.

So, once you have your drumkit plugged from the MIDI output, to the UNO (i'm assuming that's the name) input, then plugged into the PC via USB, you should have a MIDI input in your software.

For experimenting, you can download the Addictive Drums Demo (around 200mb, i think) and install it. Then fire up the AD VSTi in a track in your DAW.

In a nutshell, the drumkit will send signals from each pad to the PC on a midi channel, say 45 for kick drum. In the AD software, you'll tell it that on channel 45, play a kick drum sound. Now when signal goes from kick pad -> MIDI ch 45 -> PC; AD demo, the kick drum sound attached to ch 45 plays.

Do this with all the pads, so they're pointing where they should be, and you've got a functioning kit. I think the AD demo has one basic kit, but no toms. I built up a kit like this for my homemade DIY guitar hero drumkit, using AD demo and Drumcore demo for tom sounds. Works pretty well.

hth, have fun.

Nice, have you ever tried EZ Drummer? I have heard a lot of good things about it. Also, if I decided to upgrade my interface, I wouldnt need the conversion unless the new interface has midi support, right?

I have not. I know lots of people are very happy with it though, so it should work very nice.

You only need the Maudio UNO if your interface does NOT have midi interface. If you get an interface that has MIDI I/O, then you're set.

The UX2 does not have MIDI, so you'd need a MIDI interface.

I just want to add that I love the fact that a "Beer of the Month" ad appeared next to the reply form field. Ha!

I got the sound through..and I placed an order for the M-Audio UNO. For some reason the USB is not recoginized on my computer so I cant record MIDI into Sonar. Little odd, but oh well. I am really looking at a new interface, and just add my own effects digitally.
