Hiya :] hopefully you read this deon, i'm looking at getting myself that joe meek you have, i found one for around $600 or so (refurbished). And, she looks pretty nice! I did sort of want a pre that could function as a channel strip, But I'm worried it might be a little too noisey.

Whats your opinion after using it for several years? Any overly-noticeable hiss in your signal? And how's it color your sm7b? Several retailers say in the sm7b's description that a transparent pre is preferred, but. Idk. I've noticed the 7b sounds a little too dark, i actually am prefering the nt1a on vox right now (when i can quiet the computer fan up enough :\) but thats threw the tassies pres, which sound like junk lol.

As a side note, i swear i'm not trying to copy your gear list :P though its getting increasingly similar.

hahaha, hey dude, no problemo you'll just have to pay royalites.

Well i noticed a big change in my guitar and bass tones definately.
on the vox and the 7mb, again sounds nice and smooth, but i can sorta see what you mean on it sounding darker as opposed to the Nt1.
both vey different mics though and i guess it comes down to what you like.
I reckon im going to start blending the 2 when doubling tracks one track per mic.

All in all i still really love the Meek, i think you will too.
I dont get much hiss, well none that ive noticed yet, but youre doing different music.

Maybe i can lay a few different guitar tracks for you using pod and some cleaner guitar sounds and post em for you to have a listen.
Might make decsisons a bit easier again.
(im ****ed if i can remember how to spell descision tho)

You'd do that? thanks man! i'd really like to hear those. Actually, if you have a minute on your hands, a quick a/b from how the tassies pre sounds compared to the meek would really help. vox or an acoustic instrument, only if you have the time though. thanks man! I have heard a lot of good things about the meek as a DI, instrument pre-ish. but I'm just wondering how it sounds on vox. especially compared to the ultra-cheap, hissy tascam preamps.

Also, i read a few instances of people complaining about the quality of its A/D converters. I'm really not sure what to even listen for yet really as to a bad quality a/d converter.

ok i will post a song in the making still, with mock up vocals, i will just say though that i had the sm7b with the switch boosting the high end so it sounds a tad little thinish, but that in mind you'll realise what its like for vox. I have also squashed the *** out of the vox with a compressor. im thinking with a new round of vox it'll sound 100% better.

I will post that song, but i will also just do some talking thru the 7b and the NT1 for comparison and post that too. If the site will let me, ive had some trouble posting songs.

as for the a/d converters, hahaha yeah, **** knows what theyre even talking about really, all these "experts" must have alot more better ears than i have. I dont know what to listen for either, but i dont hear anythin bad, so.

I will try to do it today, if not you could be waiting a while, im having surgery tomorrow and wil be outta action for a couple weeks man. Keep an eye out, will try to do today for ya.

Thanks D! i hope your surgery goes well.... is it pretty serious? feel better man.

that means a lot to me though, thanks! if you can't get around to it today, don't worry about it. Its not a huge deal. And yeah, good point. There's THOUSANDS of home "experts" online. They most certainly know more than I do, but people can let that go to their heads and exaggerate pretty frequently.

yeah man, well after all, we are recording home studio qual.
a/d converters not living up to expectations should be the least of their worries.

Im more worried about my $400 aud interface crapping out hahaha.

anyways, i dint have a chance to get it done but i will post that half finished song with sh**ty half finished vox on it for ya.

im having nose surgery to fix a bent and battered nose and its airways. so i can breath again, hell it might make my vocals bareable tee hee.

if it works the song will be in my profile. Called NOM.

here is a link for another unfinished one also.
www.zshare.net/audio/83884715d23ce0eb/]ROTAD.mp3
You might have to download the file though that player is a piece of crap.

By unfinshed i mean no vox and appalling guitar timing. well the daw moved the waveforms and i could never get em back where they were meant to be.
I changed the tempo track and i think it stretched the audio so its a retake on all guitar tracks.

end of the day tho the guitars all ment thru the meek. along with bass
