Alesis Multimix, Cubase 4 le no audio on playback

So of course this is my first post here, and so I am a newb here, but not to using forums, and I have searched for the answer to my question and I was unable to get a solution.

Also I am a total newb to using a mixing board with cubase.

I've read through the manuals for the mixer and the pdf for cubase.

I have everything set up, the vst connections, I open an audio track and can record the track, I can see that it is recorded, but I cannot get it to play back with any audio. I've changed the windows playback devices to almost every option, I'm plugged into the headphone jack on the board, into the 2track red/white plugs (using my stereo for monitorinng) and i cannot get any sound on play back anywhere.

I would prefer if i can plug into the board for the play back that way all my audio is coming out of the board and into the stereo so when i want to use my laptop for other stuff i don't have to unplug thirty wires and cables to take it to another room.

any help is greatly appreciated thanks!

Welcome to the HRC.

I'm wondering if you've set the OUTPUT selections in Cubase to the mixer?

That'd be my first guess.

I'd also check to see if you can play some other program out from the mixer, like WMP or winamp, etc. Something other than cubase. Sounds like your windows sound applet points to the mixer outputs, but maybe now cubase.

also to test, you could see if the output is exiting via your built in sound. If it is, then this would also make me think you have the output in cubase set to your onboard sound.

If these are not it, I may suggest giving reaper a try www.reaper.fm . It's shareware and is a fully functional multitrack program. I think it's big heaps more capable than cubase le, and also may be a bit easier to work with.

(opinions are mine, but I hated cubase when I tried it. totally had no flow with how I worked).

You should be able to have everything OUTPUT via the mixer. Once the mixer is outputting sound, you should be able to plug into CTRL OUT, headphones, MAIN outs, SUB outs (if you have them). Each of these should be able to plug into some device or system (like 1pr for monitors, 1pr for headphones, 1pr for stereo, etc.)

Also be sure to turn up the volume in whatever control panels you may find. I'm not familiar with the multimix, but most interfaces I've seen have some sort of control panel, so you may want to look for that and turn on / turn up the outputs.

hth, good luck.

Thank you, I tried reaper, I couldn't get it set up to record anything, it said something about the track isn't loaded even though I set it to mono1 for recording.

anywhooooo cubase no longer even records anything I'm just a few seconds away from throwing all this stuff around and cursing.
