Hey guys, just thought I'd share this with ya's...

I've never owned a 'new' guitar. Everyone I've owned in the last 25-years of playing has been pre-owned... usually 'like' new, but not 'brand' new. About a dozen in the last couple of years.

Well, I went to GC to watch my drummer lose at the drum-off.(2nd year trying) and fell for this special-run Epi they had stuck up on the wall...

www.epiphone.com/default....CollectionID=19

... brought it home yesterday, after selling my Vetta head to another gear-whore, like myself.(too much amp for my tastes) She looks real-purdy sitting next to the white LPS w/FR that has been my main playing axe for the last couple of years. It needs a set-up, but that's expected. The coil-taps are a nice touch, helps it get a bit of a Stratish sound. The Floyd Rose Special trem is ok... stays in tune well. S'not a bad 'lil axe. = )

It's looks made me think of Nigel Tufnels historic words...
"How much more black could this be, and the answer is 'none'... none more black."

Well, I don't know jack about guitars, but that one sure looks nice! Congratulations on the pick up. Now, lets hear something from it.

Thanks guys! Hopefully I'll be getting it's set up done today.

The intonation seems fine, but playing her last night I found it going out of tune... 'sharp'. Which seems strange out of a double-locker. It shouldn't be an issue of it 'hangin up' on the nut.(of course it hangs up! lol)

It may be the springs, or the balance-possition of the trem, or even the crappy strings they put on these. Either way, I feel confident I'll have it figured out soon enough.

Haha none more black indeed! If it were playing, I could hear its sustain. Bet it plays like a dream.

You're always giving me G.A.S., man! This makes me want to trade in my acoustic for a National resonator and finally pay to get my Squier 51 modded...and also re-bias this Silvertone 1430 I picked up...still need to get both my amps grounded to reduce the risk of gruesome death...and replace the filter on my projector...

Thanks, D!

@ Quincysan: I understand completely. In fact it was another gear-whores G.A.S. that got me considering another guitar. I'm pretty sure it is a disease, which is transmitted through either touching 'other' gear, or if the gear is really nice, just talking about it.

I've only got to pick up a couple more things, before my G.A.S. symptoms start looking more like lame excuses to those who know what I play like...

-Fernandes Sustainer System for one of the LPSs.
-A good tube-overdrive pedal. To make up the gainstaging on my FlextoneIII.
-Digitech Whammy pedal.

Don't worry though, there's help out there, if you're looking for it. A reasonable social-life is a pretty good cure... girlfriend, wife, etc... if they have strong skills. No hope for me though... lost cause.

'Sup bud!? heh 2x4! lol

Changed the stings last night. I've had alot of FRs... they're not a bother. Although, I don't really know many peeps that string a guitar the way I do, all backwards, with the little 'nub' of the sting up against the tuning-peg.

Nice, i love the 'none more black' thing going on. I've been eye-ing the Gibson black stuff, menace, or something like that. Just not enough pull to drop any $$$ yet.

Congrats.

Thanks, bud.

I really wish I had the scubs for one of those Gibson Darkfire LPs. Nothing short of an amazing guitar... I don't even want to know how much they're asking, though. Check out that beast, if you're looking at Gibsons. heh

Just thought I'd touch on the 'sharp' detuning issue of this guitar, which was a direct result of it's factory setup. I've never encountered such an issue before, myself, but have heared others with the same perplexing problem, being perplexed by it. The issue is very easily fixed by incrementally backing off the two scews that hold the trem-springs to the guitar body. 'Voila! Once you get that to the right position, the trem snaps back into tune nicely... everytime.

Outside of that small issue, the guitar is rather sick. The coil taps are just what I was looking for to chime-up my clean tones, and although the ebony fretboard is a very hard surface(on the fingers), it does offer "more snap and pop than a weasle in HD..." as the Epi-add put it. I've had the chance to run her through the paces of a few, long and loud, jams sessions now and overall, I am uber-pleased with this guitar. All those Epi-haters out there should play one... it just may change their minds.= p

not to mention the 'none more black' scheme....das my fav part....my 6'er has not left the bedroom in over a month (i jam in bed mostly) so i got a lil 10 watter that stays at it's side and that's about all i need.

glad yer likin' the axe, 'tis a sharp one......i'd take it to the next level of blackness and throw the black beauty DR strings on it (although i must admit i'm not very impressed with them, as i rock 'em on my acousitc) but still...

heh The thought did cross my mind, however I heared that sruff flakes off the strings... I didn't want back dust all over her shiny-backness. Ooooo...

Speaking of black strings, NEVER try those cheap-arse bass strings made in China. My bassist tried them last week, and his fingers turn black when he plays. Although they did sound better than the year-old strings he had on. Yeesh...
