Subwoofer?

Hey gang,

I have a pair of KRK V8s and I'm considering purchasing a sub. I love the sound of the V8s but the low end is a little under-represented for my liking. I've gotten pretty used to making up for it, but would like to not have to. I'm considering an M-Audio SP-8S since it's nice and cheap, but haven't had a chance to listen to one yet. The specs show a fairly comparable frequency response as others, but specs don't mean a whole lot to me when it comes to speakers. Anyone have any experience with this sub? Any other suggestions?

I have no experience wqith that particular sub, but the couple have time I have went the sub route in the studio or home theatre or whatever I always try to either buy a speaker set with a sub, or at the very least a sub from the same peeps that made the speaker. Generally they are voiced similar and blend better since they are made by the same people using the same figures, materials and techniques, as well as the same components or actually speakers themselves.

Just a thought.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of! I think my first choice would be the KRK S12, but I think it goes for about 3 times the price of the M-Audio. I can't even find a price for it online! I guess what I really need to do is go listen to some subs in combination with the V8s and get a better idea.

Or buy a whole set of M-Audio's and sell the KRK's.

There are quite a few people here and others I know and reviews I have read that say the M-Audios are pretty nice.

Yeah, I could do that, but I spent FOREVER carefully selecting the monitors that I liked the best and the V8s were the winner. I must have been in Guitar Center for 4 hours that day switching back and forth between monitors and I had already been there with my friend when he bought his. It would have saved me quite a bit of money had the M-Audio monitors sounded as good as the V8s!

I agree with dB on the idea of listeing to the V8s with differant subs to find a match, maybe the M-Audios will fit OK, but youll just have to listen to find out. I listened to the V8s and was as you are missing the low end. I love my K-Roks and dont think I will ever rid myself of them, as I have really grown to like them. But then again they were designed to put the bass response tight out front, which is why I went with them. They are a bit on the large side, but that is the price I pay for the sound I want I guess. Good luck matching a Sub up blue, I know you will find one of your patient.
