We want to be able to control our monitor mix from on stage without affecting the signal to the FOH board. We have a 16 channel Carvin board that we could use for that purpose. Do we need to split the signals one to the Carvin and one to the snake or is there a better way?

You can use splits to run to your monitor board. Nothing wrong with that. The only thing that I would suggest, is to ground lift the leg going to the monitor board. This will eliminate any ground looping issues. And it's the cheapest way to go. I have done this by building a tail that comes out of the stage box. It's hard wired in, and makes moving the stage box a little difficult. But, it makes the wiring of the stage go a little faster.

Aug 11, 2010 12:42 am Yeah! That snake should be fine!
The way to ground lift the one side, is just to simply cut the wire going to pin 1 inside the XLR going to the monitor board. Just make sure that you mark that side that you cut.
