What can I use this for?

Me personally, I wanted something similar for the old pre-amps assuming they would have their own flavor.

After reading a page on this, it seems it has no pre's built in and you need the breakout box (mixer) to have available inputs.

Well, as a musician, not much... :)

But as a recording engineer you could bounce your 2 track premasters to it for tape saturation. For example, I've used tape for bouncing premasters to and then back into pro tools for mastering. I've also have sent stem mixes of various groups of instruments to tape and back into protools for mixing... tape has always been a great way to get that sound I wanted when it called for it. I've used it to create original "samples" of my music for hip hop/r&b use etc...

If you can find a few blank reels and dial in the tape machine it can be a fun tool in the studio.

CptTripps, we salvaged preamps from a 1960's era Scullly record lathe, built a power supply and break-out for it and had good results. Used those on quite a few recordings, fun stuff...
