Advice Needed

Need a good USB audio interface.

*24-bit
*I only need 2 XLR inputs
*MIDI Input/Output
*will work well with pc and mac (if possible)...
*48V Phantom Power

For under $300, i would love to keep it under $250... I've been researching audio interfaces for awhile and once i find one with good reviews the deeper i look, bad reviews pop up and point me in another direction. Im sure this is the case for any product but it makes things very confusing. I was pointed towards the Line 6 ux2 which i like but it has no midi in/out and i would like to use my MPK25.. Would it make a difference if i jus have them both plugged into usb? I believe i read somewhere that it is best to have the MPKs plugged into midi ports.

Is there anyway around it having no midi ports? Because i do want to go with the UX2.. But i believe i need an interface with midi ports to use the MPK25 to the fullest..

MIDI via USB is the way to go! Most (all?) modern midi controllers support USB MIDI.

So if ur midi device supports USB to Midi(or the other way around), it should make no difference wether the audio interface has midi ports?

Yessir. :] and something like this would do the trick just fine. Only downside is it takes up an extra USB port, but even if you run out expanders aren't expensive

$39 and free shipping. none too shabby ;)

Plenty! 6 preamp models, one of them doesn't add any color but the other 5 do. They aren't the most distinct, i've heard examples of a little more depth changing "preamp" models even as software, but they still do quite a good job of adding a little subtle warmth. Also the reverbs aren't bad at all! And i use a bit of delay in certain parts a lot (probably over used it in my last song haha) and you can control it with automation. There's a lot of great stuff for more drastic effects, and along with other techniques you can do recording, its a great tool. Especially when you're just starting to get into home recording, you can't (and probably shouldn't) buy every plug in that grabs your attention, and pod farm is a great "swiss army knife" program for an extremely low price.

just an overview of certain effects, since i think thats more what you were asking for

Preamp models, Reverbs, Delays (some "clean" and some offer more interesting creative abilities such as reverse delay and echoplex models), Mods (Chorus, flange, etc. A wide variety of "flavors" for each effect as well, and some truely spacey stuff), Compressor (not that good really... set attack and release, there's better freebees), EQ (again, i don't really like it).
