i have seen on powered mixers a monitor out, it looks like a 1/4 output. so how do you use it, do you need a speaker cable or instrument cable, can you connect it to another powered mixer, or does it have to be an amp to crossover to speaker.
if you can connect it to another powered mixer where do you connect it to most likeley.
thanks.

Jun 08, 2010 02:45 pm On the powered mixers that I have used, the monitor out jack is not an amplified signal. However, that would be a very important thing to verify before you hook it up to anything. Assuming that it is not an amplified signal, then you would normally use that signal to feed a separate component. I typically have used it to feed the amplifier that runs the stage monitors for the band because I don't have powered monitors. If you have powered stage monitors, it would simply plug into the input of those monitors. You would then use the controls on the channel strips of the board to determine the mix feeding the monitor out.
While you could theoretically run it to another powered mixer, I'm not sure why you would want to. If we had some more information on what you are trying to accomplish, we could be more helpful.

Jun 08, 2010 09:18 pm thanks, it is not an amplified signal, i am trying to run it to passive monitors.
would i use a speaker cable or an instrument cable.
lets say i had a power amp instead, how would i go from the monitor out to the power amp to the speakers?
thanks again.
Jun 08, 2010 09:38 pm You just need an instrument cable to come out of the "Monitor Out" then to the In of the amp. Out of the amps output, with a speaker cable, then to your monitor.
It's simple signal flow.

Jun 09, 2010 09:56 am thanks seems simple, will that work with a powered mixer?
just got out of the monitor out and into a channel on the powered mixer?
Jun 09, 2010 10:33 pm Most powered mixers have an input that allows you to bypass the mixing board portion of the mixer and just use the power amp. I'm sure that manufacturers call it something different, but on my Yamaha it is called "Power Amp in (L&R). It will essentially let you use the powered mixer as a power amp. So if you have two powered mixers, it is an option.

Jun 10, 2010 02:29 pm thanks, yeah, the situation is really my friends, he has a powered mixer with 400 watts and is runing two mains out of it but its not loud enough sometimes and i know he has another powered mixer he doesnt use anymore cuz its 200 watts, he stopped using it when he got the 400 watt one so was wondering if he could use it two add another box to his set up and hopefully get louder.
thanks again.
