Like flame said, the place to start is installing it. Without a little more to go on than "now what" we're pretty limited on how to help...

well problem is i have an intergrated sound card on my mobo... i heard around here somewhere that may cause problems if i dont disconnect it right. bear with me i suck with computers man... i mean other than that i just put the card in a pci slot and go? also i got xlr to rca cables so i can go direct from my mixers mains to the computer. with this cause any extra noise?

hey

Yeah - just pop the Delta in there, you shouldn't have any problems with it conflicting with the built in soundcard unless you are unlucky, in which case you will need to consult your motherboard's manual to find out how to disable the Audio'97 On Board sound controller.

In regards to the XLR to RCA converters adding extra noise - yes they will, but it will be so slight it won't be a problem.

hey

hey my audiophile 2496 is here. i cracked the computer to go ahead and install it. my pal told me to remove the soundblaster live card that was shipped with the dell, and replace that with the audiophile. but there are strange connections coming off that thing, ones which look like they should be kept. one goes to what i think is the modem, god knows why (its got a line in and a phone jack...it's a card right next to the soundblaster...) and the other cable goes up front to a small circuit board right behind the front panel USB ports. the audiophile doesnt look like it has any place to plug those cables into itself. i dont wanna mess up anything USB. so...

shouldn't i keep the soundblaster in there?

can i just install the audiophile in a separate slot? jues, it looks like that's what you're saying, but you're saying that that's for 'integrated sound cards.' alas, i do not know the difference and so i do not know if the advice applies here.

You shouldn't have any problems having the two cards in there at once.

True, but you may have to move the AudioPhile card a couple of times to aviod an IRQ conflict. I have a SB installed alongside my Delta card and it works fine. But just make sure you only let the windows apps run on the SB card, dont choose the SB drivers in your audio app. or you will end up with some conflicts.

whats an IRQ conflict?

also, i think ive asked this a few times but i dont remember an answer: why does the audiophile not explicitly say that it works with windows xp? in the instructions it mentions all OS's up to 2000 but not beyond. i have xp. is the instruction manual old or did i actually buy an incompatible card?

im thinking that all ihave to do is install this thing, and then make settings in the audio software telling it to use the audiophile, and that most of my other settings will remain the same: other programs already using the SB will continue to? jeez i hope.

Yes it is OK for XP, It cost a ton to reprint books everytime the upgrade software, so the text is all on the install CD. I would however recomend goin to M-Audios site and downloading the latest driver revision though. An IRQ conflict is what happens when to many devices try to use the same Interupt Request. You will know if it happening because windows may not install the card. As general rule, try putting in a PCI slot farthest away from the SB card. And yes you should be able to just leave the windows settings alone and only adjust the settings in youur recording app.
