Tascam DP-02 vs. Tascam 2488neo

Hi everyone.
got a budget of about 1 grand (maybe 12 hundred) and I want to record my music with as much quality equipment this amount can buy. I record everything by myself so no need for simultaneous recording 24 trax. the 1st question I have is this: Since the Tascam 2488 neo is the more expensive one of the two is it going to give me better sound quality and better overall recordings than the Tascam DP-02? I know the 2488neo can record more trax obviously but does anyone know if there are other significant differences to make it worth spending the extra bucks on it?
second question is: having either one of these DAW above and planing to get a Audio Technica AT4051B mic, would a preamp still be very necesary. For demo CD's adn possibly commercial CD's. I record mostly acoustic instruments.
Does anyone have other sugestions for a better DAW, a mic and possibly a preamp - considering the needs I described above?

Thank you all in advance!

I guess nobody knows these machines. Well, I'll post something here in case another weirdo like me has the same questions in the future.
I ended up geting the Tascam 2488 neo. I've had it for over a year now and I'm very happy with it. The sound is good and the built in phantom power IS sufficient. Actually I prefer to use it instead of the pre-amp I got because it does not create as much hiss and background noise. With good mics, this is an excellent tool for a small budget recording studio that doesn't necessarily include a computer.
