Lexicon Omega USB Interface

I have recently purchased this system for my own recordings. I have not actually gottne it from the UPS yeet but I am concerned about the drums. My plan is to rercord my guitar and bass first (along with vocals) then go for drums. Any tips on how to do this...I have the capability of using a sound board and drum mics hooked up at our church so i guess its just a matter of getting my computer and interface hooked to the board?

Hello Jon, welcome to the HRC.

Sorry for the delay =/

Looks like the omega has 4 line inputs, and 2 XLR inputs. Microphones can plug directly into the XLR inputs, so you could use those two for overheads, as they'll both be very similar in sound.

For the other 4, you can use the mixer preamps, and use channel direct outs, or channel inserts (plugged in up to the first click, not all the way in) to send board signals over to your 4 line inputs.

This way you'll have 6 to work with, which should be plenty, unless you're going crazy "neil peart" or something.

I just tracked my bud and his son, and we had a heck of a time getting the thing started. my bud, who is normally a great drummer, had a heck of a time staying with the click, without having the other music to play with. So I played a guitar track to a click, then he recorded over mine, listening to my guitar track.

Anyway, if you have more ?s, then make sure you mention what other equip you're using, like the make/model of the board, mics, etc.

good luck.

next question...read the mannual followed all the directions for setup and hit record...there is a line that shows up and it runs the timer....hit stop rewind and play and i get nothing. I only have my guitar plugged in...headphones and the Omega. Do i really need speakers or shouldnt my computer just play it back through the headphones? I am so confused with this thing and its not really making me happy right now.

What program are you using to multitrack with?

Where are your headphones plugged in?

You can get the playback to play through your headphones, but for me to answer usefully, i'd need to know more info about your setup, which you're not very clear about.

The more info you give us, the more we can give a useful answer.

In your program, you'll want to tell it to use the outputs on wherever you're plugging your headphones into. So if you're plugging the HP into the omega, then you'll want to tell your software to use the outputs on the omega.

If you're recording a straight line, no wave form action, then either you're recording very low signal, or none at all. Each input on the omega should have a 'gain' or 'trim' knob. turning this up will tell the omega how 'hard' to listen on that channel. Maybe your gain/trim knob is all the way down, therefore sending no, or very little signal to the PC.

I am using Cubase LE4 which came with the Omega. The only things i have plugged in are instrument in its correct port and headphones in the output section. No speakers are plugged into to omega or computer. Gain knobs are turned up ... i can play the guitar and hear it as if it were playing through an amp yet after i use the program there is nothing there....i dont know how much detail i need here but thats what i got. Thanks

Ok, so there's signal getting into the lex, and you can hear the direct monitoring, so that's good.

I'm assuming you have a track 'armed' for accepting your signal for recording. I don't think you'd get a line if you didn't. So maybe you're telling C.LE to listen on an incorrect input? Like C.LE is listening on input 2, but you're actually plugged into input 1.

I'm not sure more than that. I'm not using Cubase, but I'd think it's pretty similar to most other software.

eh, give reaper a shot if you can't get it going. I can help for that =).

Though I've not used the omega, as long as you can see the inputs in your program, you should be able to record them.
