Old Song, New Singer - The Side Project

Hey all,

So I've been practicing alot with my side project band. We have 7 songs and no name yet but; my wife had a dream we were called "Mixed Nuts" so I'm rolling with that for now.

On to the track, it's waaaaaay rough (and mixed in 5 mins). Only one guitar (plus a solo) and a decent drum take. We practiced for about 3 hours before I had our singer track her vox (I just wanted something to practice backups during the week) plus she had a sore throat. I had her sing through my dynamic OM2 but she is one of those singers you want an LDC in truth. Actually, she was so fatigued that I didn't even have her sing the last chorus but cut n pasted. She hated it, I thought it was great, only leaves room for improvement :)

Anyway, what are your thoughts so far on the overall stylings? Funny I found both the drummer and singer on craigslist, if you post it.. they will come.

In my profile under "mixed nuts", is called "50s song".

Drummer & Singer both sound very good Cpt, I like the style of the song, it will be a great song once you've gotten it finished up. The intro works well, really want to hear this finished up!

No problem, actually gave me a little time to re-track a better drum take and mix it a tad (still on guitar, vox n drums). Listening now the kick is loud and maybe guitars. Too much tracking/mixing for one day, time to rest the ears.

I really dig some of that fatigued singing. She's got a good feel to her. Really fits well with the music. Congrats on the find!! Just out of curiosity how old is this girl anyway?

I like this song a lot actually. I just listened to it a third time haha. Nice!

She is... 28 I believe. I can't wait to track her with an LDC when she is warmed up yet not fatigued. I'm thinking a bottle of wine would be perfect when we hit the home stretch (long ways off on drums), I sing much more at ease with a little buzz going.

We have thrown seven songs her way (some quite odd) and she just keeps returning kickass vocals and stylings, can't wait to gig this band... :)

On the craigslist post, I actually got a ton of responses (I posted a couple music tracks to reel em in) and tried out a few different ones. We had another who was great vocally and range wise but... her stylings made the songs more generic than they should be. The girl we picked seemed to add to the originality.
