What im wondering is, with this setup do you get each channel sent into the computer seperatly or do you just get stereo/mono sound when recording with your computer etc....

If you just get stereo/mono what would be a good option to go with to get each track into the comp seperated?

It depends on the mixer quality, some lower end brands only allow a few channels in but for the most part no mixer will have USB connectivity without giving u the option of going in track by track so u should be safe.

I think Alesis blazed that trail a few years ago so they should have pretty good stuff and they have a new model bu Roland i believe. From wat ive heard however the technology isnt at the level it should be yet and so USB mixers arent exactly the go to interfaces at the moment.

If you have a lot of bucks. And I do mean a lot.

You could go to Digidesign and get one of their Venue Profiles. It will do 96 channels at 96k straight to Pro Tools.

Nope, the Yamaha USB mixers only send 2 channels, but can input 10 or 12. So be warned.

Also, the behringer combo deals (mixer and UCA202 thing) are only 2 channels as well.

So for both of these, either you can send 2 channels at a time, or send the summed mix out as a stereo (2 channel) track.

So you have to be specific, and do some research. Some do all channels, some do only 2.

I think the alesis I/O 26 thing is a firewire mixer w/ all channels hot. There's also the line6 UX8, which is 8channel USB. The tascam 1641 gives you 8 channels, plus xlr preamps built in, as some other devices (firewire, mostly)
