My inner geek is singing and dancing for the joy of returning to Chernobyl in the latest installment.

I know JBot has been waiting as well, if you like shoot em ups to be hard as hell, free roaming with an RPG flavor then look no further ;) Best atmosphere\immersion in a game ever and what Fallout 3 coulda been.

Hope it's at the store when I get off work, being in AK I usually (but not always) have to wait until release day+1 :(

Awesome! I will definitely have to get this one. Right now I've been playing the first one again with the Oblivion Lost mod. I never finished it all the way through the first time I played it.

I watched a documentary on Chernobyl before, and the landscape looked exactly like it does on the game. They did a really good job recreating the atmosphere.

Yay, another fan!!!

I was right though, looks like I "might" be able to get it today. Someone might be feeling a little sick for band practice *cough cough*.

Now that you mention Chernobyl, I remember reading good reviews of that Stalker game. Never played it though. Is it out for PS3?

I've been spending my time since Xmas playing through Modern Warfare 2 a few times, playing through Drake's Fortune 2, and I just went and bought used copies of Godfather I and II and Operation Flashpoint.

The Godfather games are almost identical to Grand Theft Auto 4, just set in the 1940s. And Operation Flashpoint is almost too detailed...it's taken about 12 hours of playing to even start to be able to complete the most basic missions. Really detailed game, which is cool if you're in for the simulation kind of thing. But I kinda prefer the relatively run 'n gun setup of MW2.

What all other cool console games are coming up? I've seen a couple advertised on TV lately. What's the one with the chick with a gun barrel in the stiletto heel of her shoe? That looks pretty cool.

My birthday is in March, so I need to get the lay of the land as far as upcoming releases :-)

Flashpoint, completely brutal. Similar to Stalker it's sometimes best to avoid a firefight in that game when possible. I will say the new Flashpoint "dragon rising" is tons easier than the original. If you are talking about Dragon Rising then never play the original or the ARMA series, they are indeed simulators of which Dragon Rising is by far the easiest :)

And no, no PS3 for Stalker, PC only at the time (thank god as the previous utilized DX10 rather well and the new is geared for DX11).

I have also been cracking out on MW2 for 360, I love those games alot. Although.... I did recently try that Battlefield Bad company 2 multiplayer demo, it's quite good and a possible purchase now. Possibly will go PC with that one though, depends on any friends buy it and on which platform.

On the game with the chick, are you talking about Bayonetta?

I found Stalker to be a messy, buggy, frustrating game.

I'm no noob with FPS' but unloading several clips into someone at close range for no result is just down right stupid.

Yeah, Stalker had its fair share of bugs, but I didn't have too much problems with it on my system. And the mods for making the ballistics and damage more realistic much improved the gameplay, and the tension during firefights.

Just got home from pie night at the local Village Inn restaurant, and a trip to target and best buy. Got Call of Pripyat, Torchlight (a diablo-like action rpg) and Dragon Age Origins.

So yeah, I'm set for awhile, not to mention I've been playing DDO Online. I think I'm set for games for awhile :)

The original was buggy indeed, but still a great game. The first few firefights with my 9mm did leave me frustrated but a better gun solved that issue. I found that after I made it to the second Zone (got even better weapons and some armor) and then came back to turn in quests I was mowing down the intial baddies really easy as their sawed offs and 9mm did nothing against my armor.

Clear Sky was far less buggy imo and I loved being able to mod my weapons for bigger clip size, accuracy, recoil reduction etc..

Dragon Age was definitely a cool game, I just didn't have the time for it while playing assasins creed II and waiting for Stalker.

I'm still wandering the wasteland.

Simply cannot get enough of FO3.

I might give this Stalker a go. I haven't played a decent FPS since Modern Warfare 2.

Borderlands was a bit ho hum.

Tried FO3, got bored with the environments. Tried stalker, seemed buggy and unplayable at the time. Tried to get into WOW at one point...not interesting to a guy who went through a 2 year Everquest addiction. I'd spend 18 hours a day drooling in front of my monitors and when I finally turned it off I'd think to myself, "You haven't eaten in 18 hours. You are on the brink of starvation. Sustenance, immediately." Not looking for that type of addictive game play again.

I haven't been gaming recently; but I also haven't seen too many games that can top Elder Scrolls III Morrowind. I didn't like Elder Scrolls IV...the HUD felt awkward and bulky to me.

I think if I were to start playing a game again I'd go through Morrowind for a bajillionth time. Really great for those who like open endedness...you can seriously do ANYTHING in that game (noooo not like in Second Life you fricken' perv). Excellent reply value, and even when the replay value is wearing thin there's an especially excellent ability to change many rules of the game. Create your own super weapon, change gravity temporarily. It's like you're Agent Smith and Morrowind is your Matrix...I like it. When I had done all the main quests and most of the side quests I would flip gravity on and off while hopping around the entire realm...pretty cool. There's a moon-like thing that hangs above the map, in the game as played by default, you simply teleport up to the moon. I always assumed the moon itself was part of a different map...but after some rule-bending, it turns out you can just Superman jump on top of it too. Little stuff like that is what keeps me hooked on games, hah. There are so many story lines in this game it's obnoxious! My only gripe is that it isn't multiplayer

I wish someone would make an RPG that's targeted at the LAN scenario. I hate gaming with people online anymore, but I really dig the idea of leveling up in specialty functions and then grouping to fight in elaborate environments.

Probably not a lot of money in it but when laptops powerful enough for gaming become a commodity like cell phones for people I think that market might expand...here's hoping. Pen and paper RPG's are ok...but c'mon, a video game meant to be played in the style of a pen and paper RPG would be much cooler and less hassle.

I loved Fallout 3, maybe just because I loved the first 2 games that weren't FPS but turn-based RPG. I don't get into swords and sorcery, dragons and elves kind of fantasy. But I can really get behind a guns and bullets kind of an RPG, even if it involves giant green radioactive mutants. I've loved the Fallout series ever since I first played it in college. Plus I liked Oblivion, which is geared more towards RPG fans like me; it's a little less laborious and detailed. Put them together and Fallout 3 was a game I was gonna like pretty much no matter what.

I am more into slinging lead as well but Oblivion was just fantastic all around. I started stalker last night finally, I am happy to say the engine runs a little smoother, I have experienced zero bugs and the new mutants are pretty darn creepy, good times so far.

I could never get Fallout 3 to even work on my computer. I borrowed my brother's copy to play, but I couldn't even get the game to start. I'm glad I didn't pay money for it.

As far as RPGs with guns and bullets, I loved Mass Effect. It had a great storyline to it. I'm definitely going to have to pick up Mass Effect 2 as well as the new Stalker.

Yeah, managed to play a bit of CoP last night, and I have to say it indeed seems to run pretty smoothly. Played it for a few hours, and no crashes or anything. Maybe the odd split-second pause as something was cached or loaded, but beyond that, smooth as glass.

I wandered out to this old run down sawmill area. There were about 12 zombified stalkers around, so I ninja'd several of them, and there were about 5 left when a pair of loners came up and blasted the remaining zombies.

Sun was getting low, and I was looting bodies (by then the pair had gone their own way) and a good sized pack of blind dogs lead by a pair of pseudo-dogs swarmed in. (probably to feed on the corpses) So, next thing I know, I'm running for a building, and climbing a ladder to the attic to get rid of the pests. By the time I managed to take down a 3rd pseudodog that joined in, it was near pitch black night time.

I'm now sitting on the -roof- of the building, cradling my rifle like my lover, because a few snorks came in after I finished off the dogs, and they could jump high enough to claw me in the attic, but not actually jump into the attic.

And so now, I stare out at the blackness, listening to the snork growls, praying the sun comes up so I can see what the hell I'm trying to shoot.

(I knew I was going to be in for a long night when I saw the silhouette of a few snorks against the sunset in the distance.)

And yes, I've had at least a few incidents that had me shouting expletives as I was caught off guard. >_<

See, that's why I love this game :) Nothing like trying to survive in the Zone.

I fell in that damn crevice all the way to the very bottom of the cave network. After using the last of my medkits to heal up from the fall I started to work my way out, it was loaded with snorks and I thank god for 12G pump shotguns.

On my laptop I get some HDD stuttering, on my desktop (quad core w/ 9GB DDR3 and a 1GB 4850) I'm kicking 1920x1200 and it runs like butter (dx9). The DX10 looks great, but when I crank the effects to "very high" or "max high" it comes to a crawl. If I leave them on just "high" it's not that much different from DX9 so I might as well stay with performance. I plan on getting a new vid card eventually, I just want to see what Nvidia has up its sleeve first before taking the plunge on an ATI 5xxx series.
