Hi
As I am new here, I hope this is the correct place to post this question.
Just plugged in a new pair of KRK Rokit 5s. Using a 3.5 stereo lead out from the RCA socket on the monitor to go direct into the headphone socket on the iMac. Done this before with basic active PC type speakers and no problems.
All was fine for about an hour but then as I clicked the play button on iTunes the most horrendous, loud screeching noise came from the speakers. Like this guys,
but incredibly loud! I unplugged the speakers but the noise continued from the speaker in the Mac. Shut it all down and restarted. The Mac speaker is fine as are some old speakers but have not yet dared to plug the KRKs back in.
Anybody have any ideas? Am I using the wrong lead? I am at a loss.

Jan 27, 2010 12:19 pm Well ur going from ur headphone out to the monitor, thats probably not the best way to do it. Maybe on ur smaller pc speakers it was happening, but just not as noticeably obviuosly since the larger KRKs have much better amps in them and r just louder.
But from the sound im hearing, it sounds like the connection inside ur headphone output and the actual jack is going screwy.
Try new jack?
Best thing to do obviously though is to upgarde ur output to one built for the application ur using
Jan 27, 2010 01:21 pm Right, I see. When you say "upgrade the output to one built for the application", do you mean an interface?

Jan 29, 2010 07:23 am The way that it was changing according to what was happening on the screen, I suspect the video cable needs to be shielded, but even so wouldn't think it would be this loud.
Try isolating/changing the cable, see if that makes a difference.
Hope this helps.
