What model do you have? It sounds like you have no amp, which means the monitors are self powered, correct? If so, then isn't there a volume control on the speaks themselves?

Connect the mixer (send and receive) to your USB interface and then connect your monitors to the mixer so you have another level of volume control.

And yes your monitors do have volume control of sorts, it's the "input trim" on the back.

ain't that the truth!

heh heh, couldn't help it.

Also, in windows sound volume control, you usually can have 2 volumes to control: 1) main 2) wave or similar.

like thus. you can control with much finer detail:

I am not 100% sure on the routing but someone else here could help I'm sure.

But yes, I mean mixer out to USB interface, USB interface back into mixer, and run the monitors out of your mixer so you have volume control.

Without some sort of attenuator in line, you're spitting into the wind. Using Windows or some uncalibrated volume control or what not (IMO/E) is just plain dangerous (even if the attenuator isn't calibrated to the system).

lol i didnt rly understand any of that

i am using windows though, i turn its vol ctrl down to 1/100.

i tried re-routing my mixer so it went:
mixer ALT 3-4> uca200 usb
out/uca200 usb > back into mixer through 7/8
control room of mixer > monitors

this^^ way i could control the monitors by using the control room knob. but when i needed to hear something from my DAW, the whole process was dodgy, and recording into it was also dodgy coz it sounded different if i sent it to main mix than if i sent it to ALT 3-4.

no one has any idea's?
if it helps here's some more info:

*laptop has windows 7
*when i use my DAW i have the option of using a new sound device called "3-audio codec" or something liek that, which i didnt have on my pc. and when i use it, the vol is pretty normal, but i cant use it to get any input from the mixer.
