Hi i need some help. I recently got a new comp, and on my old comp i had cool edit and the same devices and mic and it was giving me perfect sound. I installed cool edit pro on my new computer n i have the drivers installed correctly for the tascam us-144 midi interface which is connected to my mic. I made the primary device the tascam but there is no option under the midi in & out tabs to choose the tascam interface. When i record thru the mic everything is crackling and sounds terrible quality is worse than poor. I need help getting it back to the quality i had on my other comp. idk if this will matter but im running on windows 7 now b4 it was vista so it shouldnt be a big difference.

[update] - Im highly confident the tascam drivers were not installed right because i ran into a lot of issues using my computer while it was plugged in (force closure of programs, weird chirping noises through speakers while playing itunes). The disc i have wont let me install the drivers cus its in 32 bit and it says i need to use the 64 bit drivers, which i downloaded from their website, apparently it didnt work so any suggestions? also im really new to this website so how can i close the my account tab thats covering half of my screen

you must be using IE8, switch it to "compatibility mode" and that issue with the menu will go away.

So, you switched from a 32 bit to a 64 bit OS...what OS (old and new) are we dealing with here? Before you installed the 64 bit drivers, did you uninstall any other drivers for the device that were there?

I'll ask this first as well. When you downloaded the drivers from the Tascam website did you download the actual Windows 7 64 bit drivers? There don't appear to be even Beta drivers for it yet from what I am seeing. So you must have downloaded Vista drivers.

And to be honest, from what I am reading so far the US-144 is having major issues in Windows 7 so far.

My suggestion would be to completely un install the drivers for the Tascam unit and then make certain to clean all Tascam entries out of the registry as well. Otherwise you will have the same issues again.

It appears that a couple of tried the Vista 64 bit drivers with some success on Windows 7 so it might be worth a shot to try a clean install to see.

Otherwise you will need to get in touch with Tascam tech support and push them to release at least a beta driver for Windows 7.

Ya, it seems that a few companies are lagging behind in releasing even beta drivers.
