Hi guys it's been a long time since i post a topic here. I'm glad to know that there's someone always available to help me out.

I'm about to buy microphones and i'd like to know what you professional guys recommend me. I'm between this 3 mics Sennheiser e835 or e845 or Shure SM58. I've read some reviews about them but I still don't know which one is best.

So if you could give me a hint here I'd appreciate it.
Thanx!!

Chris!

I personally love my e835 :] I'm assuming the e845 is a little step up, but i haven't used it so who knows.

58's are great too, and i haven't had much experience with them (kariokee is about it haha). But from when i have used them, i preferred my e835.

Also i might as well tell you the logic the salesperson told me when i was looking into mics (who knows how sound this reasoning is though, it was a salesman haha). The 58's are amazing microphones. They've been around decades, but they're still legendary. But the sennheisers haven't been around all that long, and are using a bit more modern technology than the tried and true 58s.

Again, i can't verify this, just regurgitating information lol. But thats my 2 cents

Of the 2 Sennheiser mic's the 845 has a little better off axis rejection as its pick up pattern is a bit smaller. The Shure SM58 is by far the most road worthy and rugged of the 3. And it has been the work horse of vocalist's for years.

Mic choice is really a personal taste thing to be honest though. And you are so much better off going out and trying each one to decide for yourself. Most music stores will plug one in and let you bess with them through headphones, some will do it up live through a PA or to tape. The Sennheiser mic's are no slouch though by any stretch. Some owuld say they are a bit more detailed then the 58, but if your doing screaming type vocals then the 58 is the better choice as you don't really need the detail of the Sennheiser mic's.

I'm going with what Noize said.

It's all about personal taste, and application. The E835 is a cardioid pattern. The E845 is a Hyper - Cardioid. And a Shure SM58 is a Cardioid pattern as well.

I find the Sennheiser Evolution series to be a bit bright in it's response. So, if your recording, then it's not a bad choice. For live use, it tends to a little difficult to hold them stable in the monitors. I find that 4k needs to cut much more then I would like. Leaving the monitors a little lifeless.

Now the SM58 is not the best in frequency response. But, as noize stated, their are for the most part, indestructible. There are videos out there of Shure dropping them off of a 7 story balcony, and then picking the mic up, plugging it in, and talking into it. It's not uncommon to find some 58's to be around 20 years old or more.

Personally, I do prefer the Beta58A. It has a lot more life to it in response. And is built in the same fashion as an SM58. Can't kill it! But, I feel that it has a more natural sound in a live application.
