MIDI to USB Setup - Roland JV-50 as MIDI Controller - Acid Pro 6 Sequencer

Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this issue I'm having. I'm fairly new to the world of MIDI interfaces and control, but I learned from a friend that I could connect up my old Roland JV-50 as a midi controller, and use it to manipulate a VST on the computer.

I happen to use Acid Pro 6 for recording anyway, and additionally downloaded Native Instruments Kore Player to use as my VST. Unfortunately, for the life of me, I cannot get my computer speakers to make any sound after pressing the keys on my keyboard, when I feel I've hooked everything up correctly.

My setup is as follows:

Roland JV-50 (MIDI Out) -------------------> U2CME MIDI to USB Cable-----------> Acid Pro 6/Kore Player/Windows Vista/Realtek Audio Sound Card

I feel like I have all the basics down like making sure the MIDI In on my CME cable is connected to the MIDI out on my keyboard, and that the USB driver is up to date on my computer.

I'm guessing the problem lies in setting up my MIDI input/output in Acid Pro, or conversely on my Roland JV-50. I've consulted my JV-50 manual and it hasn't been much help, as it seems that it's setting changes have no effect. Then, of course, it could be something totally different.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm pulling out my hair here. Thanks in advanced!

On the JV-50 you will need to turn local control off.

Then in Acid you will need to go into the preferences and select then enable the generic midi input. I can't tell you what name it will appear as but it would hopefully be the only midi input option in there.

Thanks for the reply, Czar. I did what you said, but there's still something I'm not getting quite right for some reason. I'm trying to get the keyboard to sound through my computer speakers with the VST voices applied to it.

The MIDI cable I'm using blinks on both ends, indicating that it's receiving the signal properly. Is there any other preparation that I might need to get it to sound from the computer? I've attempted to prepare a MIDI track, armed it for record, but nothing happens when I press on the keys. The little input gauge doesn't have any level.

Any thoughts? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Your not getting any midi activity in Acid at all? Then either the keyboard is not sending midi data or the cable is funky or possibly the driver is not right or not functioning properly.

I'll have a look at it and reply back if I had any success. Thanks again!
