Real-Time Audio Playback

Hi

Searched all over the place and couldn't find an answer so I'm probably missing something obvious.

When I record audio into my software I can only playback the audio after it has finished recording, just wondering if I could do this in real-time instead. I used to use a zoom multi-track recorder so I didnt have this problem before.

I'm using sony acid music studio and an M-audio fast track usb if that helps at all.

Thanks

Not sure about Acid but look for Line Echo or Monitoring buttons on your tracking view.

Thanks for your reply

I couldn't find monitoring buttons, I searched and I had to select specific drivers for them to appear apparently but I didnt get it to work.

Found a solution though, with the fast track usb theres a mix knob, and the headphone slot on the fast track will playback the audio from the software and what is actually being recorded depending on which way you turn it, works for me.

Using ASIO drivers that is the only way it will work as your DAW will only access one device at a time. If recording through your fast track then you must monitor through your fast track be it headphones or monitor speakers.

Thats how I found out in the end, I restarted sony acid and then the asio drivers came up, I just routed the playback setting to the fast track, its not the best method for me as I would like to control volumes of each output seperately but it works for now.

The volumes of which outputs seperately? If you mean the pre-recorded audio vs. your current take this should not be a problem. Usually your interface control panel should have monitor levels for each channel, if not you can simply turn your already recorded tracks up/down in Acid via the master fader.

I mean the pre-recorded and the live yes, I tried your method, and that seems so obvious now, thanks.
