Hi,
Im after a good easy to use vocal processor.

I had a look a KVR but really need some user feedback on some good'n's if possible.

Ive never use em before, in fact i dont know really what they do, im assuming theyre designed to help you eq and manage your vox after recording?

a nice easy one to use would be best.

Cheers for any ideas.

The term vocal processor souds like it just is a multi effects unit designed specifically for vox

either way it will still be compressors eqs and suchh, usually withh limited settigns taht ahve been proven to work well with vox

i thikn with these kinds of plugs, teh expertise is a big factor in narrowing down the settings, so maybe a free one ultimately wouldnt be as good as a few seperate plugs

my 2c.

What qualities are you going for? Just some experimentation?

Qualities, well, a good sense of humor is critical, attractive and must smell good.

Oh, wait...never mind...

na na dB, your onto it mate, smell is paramount! (sniffs the air)

ok Quincysan,
well i guess yeah some experiment would be cool to see how it goes, but yeah i guess im looking for something to blend vox in more you know? basicly im just using the the stocky Cubase 4 effects at this point.
they are pretty basic really, they arent any different than the ones you'd get in the LE version.

Its was bound to happen sooner or later, "i need to upgrade my effects"

So a vox processor will just give me a presety kinda thing for with maybe some filters and whatnot?

Voxengo Voxformer is a good one. It's not free but not expensive either. Other than that I use pretty much just what comes with Sonar PE. All of their plugs are pretty well respected.

I was fishing for "I do a lot of screaming in my music". I don't know if that's true or not, but I have a terrible amount of experience in making screams sound, for lack of a better term, brutal. Here's what worked for people recording me.

1.) Compression is your savior. The worst sounding screams can sound respectable with compression. Heavy compression is desirable in many cases. For singing I leave the signal untouched unless compression is necessary; for screaming I used compression unless untouched signal was necessary.
2.) Play with reverb/delay automation. I found that hitting the higher pitched screams sounds a tad more epic with heavier delay and reverb. Subtle, but noticeable. Mix reverb and delay negligibly during those chunky rhythmic sections.
3.)Use a friggan' sm57. No sense in using a condenser mic for this vocal technique; you'll scare it.
4.) Don't use much distortion, it rarely sounds very good in my experience.
5.) Play with adding duplicate tracks and bring them up or down in pitch by a few semitones. You aren't going for pitch anyway, so using octaves isn't necessary. This is the most devastatingly brutal sound for my vocals I've ever heard...to the point of sounding cheesy if overdone. Seriously...it sounded like a fire breathing dragon.
6.) I have a really thick scream that sounds intense and throaty without manipulation, but most other vocalists in the genre in my area recorded multiple tracks and layered them. I'm talking 3 or 4. It helped them considerably.

Since I've started singing and stopped screaming, I don't use much on my vocals. Just practice all day, at every opportunity. A little compression here or there but not on the whole track, certainly a reverb insert. Perhaps a little delay doubling...but I don't really do the delay thing any more either. It really helps out for those unintentional vibratos.
