Well, for starters, what kind of sound are you trying to get? Could you throw us an example, like another song whose strings you're trying to aim toward? Maybe another artist that gave you the inspiration?

Also, are you aiming for a more traditional classical strings sound, or are you aiming for something more electronic, like a warm analog string sound?

Just from listening to what you have, it sounds like there's a boost in the EQ somewhere around 500 and 600hz and it's producing that "muddy/squawky" sound. So it sounds like the lower mids have the issue, and need to be cut back a bit.

If you're tweaking EQs to get a specific sound, there's a great frequency chart that can be found here:

www.independentrecording....ain_display.htm

It might help you get closer to what you want, whatever that may be. It's also a good general-knowledge sorta thing as well.

I think he meant that he is trying to make his recording sound like the mp3's listed.

I don't know a lot about synth strings, but this sounds like one that uses lots of layering, as you suspected, and lots of reverb. Wouldn't know where to go from there.

It is a synth string sound in the mp3's for sure. I'm not sure what you want us to do though about Kontakt 3.

Are you looking for someone to make a patch for you to load in Kontakt 3?

I do use Kontakt 3 but really am not sure what it is your asking for.

Okay my bad. I must have totally misunderstood.

I don't know what sounds were used to get the sound in the listed mp3's I'll need to listen a bit more closely, but it sounded kinda like a mix of an EQ'd orchestral string setting in the background with a more synth string in the foreground, but yeah, definitely some kinda layering being used. I can here a tremolo strings setting used on certain chords as well, so I think there's at least 2 or 3 layers. I'm just not entirely sure what those layers are. One of em's a synth for sure, and I hear a tremolo in there somewhere, but not sure what else I'm hearing.

I don't have EWQLSO silver or gold, or even kontakt, but there's some guys over on OCRemix that use em pretty frequently you could try asking around there as well to see if they recognize any of the sounds. Just a thought.

Edit: okay after listening to it a few times, I'm wondering if a synth is even used at all. It could be an orchestral set run through some kinda filter or distortion as well. Kinda tough to pin it down for me. It could also be a track with those effects layered with a dry track and EQ'd to taste. Not entirely sure at this point, and I don't think my monitoring chain is good enough to pinpoint exactly what's going on.
