MIDI nightmare of Roland XV 5050

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I've decided I need help.

I have a Roland XV 5050 and I'm using Cubase SX for recording software. The problem I have is that I cannot figure out how to rum simultaneous sounds using all 16 MIDI channels. I can only seem to use 1 channel at a time and if I manually change a MIDI channel to use another sound (which I thought was long winded) I loose the sound on the previous MIDI channel. What's more, as I scroll thorugh the sounds on cubase it misses some sounds on the XV 5050, and the sound 'banks' on cubase have no effect on it?
I know I'm clearly not doing what I should be in order to use if properly but the manual is so complicated I can't make head nor tail of it.
I have been previously using a Proteus 2000 and it is so user friendly and syncs uncomplicatingly via MIDI.

Can anyone help me
Many thanks.

Martin

Hi martin. I'll ask a couple of basic question's first. In Cubase are you assigning separate midi tracks with a different channel for each new sound you want to play?

On the Cubase not giving you the correct patch read outs in the menu. Do you have all the banks of the XV registered in the midi menu of Cubase. I'm not extremely familiar with it but I do believe it is the same as most.

Hi Noize2u, thanks for the reply.

Yes I'm assigning seperate midi tracks per channel for each sound. If I move to another track and midi channel I won't hear anything as all the sounds are one one assigned channel only.

In the midi device manager in cubase sx there is no option for XV 5050 so it has to be entered manually, but I'm not sure if I've done this right as it still doesn't match up. If i just leave the device as connected in midi it will default to GM bank only.

When i entered the proteus in the device manager, it read the device through my midi interface without having to select the device to use, but when i enter the xv 5050 it comes up as a seperate output device instead of using the midi interface output?

I know i'm probably sounding quite dumb here, but its confusing to me.

thanks

Martin

OK, Cubase does not read the information from the synth itself. IT uses instrument definition's to display what is in each bank of the synth. I found several place with Google that have converter's to convert Sonar instrument files into usable files in Cubase. As well there were several editor's that will work for you.
