vocal booth

greetings to everyone

i need some advice here on voice recording
i made a vocal booth from plywood and a 2x4
but i had some spunge i found from my baby matres
so i put the spunge inside my vocal booth whic is 2 inch length and width 2inch aswel
qst is am i on right track here voice sound different
any advise on that would be great
i forget to mention that i cover the spunge with the same covering of the matress.

Hello ddreadi,

I'm not sure what spunge is, but I'll assume it is some type of foam.

Also, i'm not sure what you mean by 2 inch length and width. That's pretty small, so I think there's a small communication problem.

Anyway, for a vocal booth, or shield, I think having a curved type thing: \_/ that you can stand somewhat inside of, is the idea. Having foam on the inner walls of the shield will knock down reflections and such, giving your mic a 1 voice only signal. So you won't have any reflections or echo in your recording.

Ya, too much absorption will make the vocal pretty dead sounding. You need to use some but not too much. That mattress foam is probably a bit too thick.

I bought a pop filter from this site called www.editorskeys.com, have been using it constantly since and its actually amazing, I get perfect audio recordings every time! Saves me having to use a full vocal booth set up. Also I managed to pick up this 10% discount code from soundonsound.com I will put it below, think it only lasts another 5 days though

at the moment i have the sponge 2,5 inches thick
do i need to make them thinner.
what if i had it at 1.5 inches thick what do you think
