Cubase LE, Lexicon Omega Problems

Hey,

I'm new to the whole recording business and I'm having a few problems starting. (Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong section)

I purchased the Omega Desktop Recording Studio package complete with the lexicon audio interface and cubase le, a couple months ago.

The first time I installed everything according to the manual, things were fine. My computer recognized the hardware and the 4 buses and everything was straight. When I was done recording that day, I unplugged the usb cord and the power supply. When I went to plug everything back in the next day, my computer's taskbar did not have any task bubbles appearing telling me the drivers were being recognized, and then windows said that there were problems during the installation and the hardware would not work properly. Under Devices and VST multitracks, Lexicon Omega Asio could not be selected/found, and that is essential to record...

So, I then un-installed everything and repeated the process over. Everything then worked properly. But then again, the same thing happened when I unplugged the usb and power supply and came back to use it the next day... (what are you supposed to do when you're done using your audio interface for the day?)

Now I can't get Cubase to work. When monitoring an audio track, the levels go through the roof and I don't know what is triggering that because I don't think anything is going through any input? (the entire monitoring bar is filled to the peak with green, when no audio is being inputted in...)

I have some really good material/music and I am very eager to record. But so frustrated that I can't figure this out. If anybody can help, it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

keep checking the asio is "checked" when it does that wierd ****. my first interface was an Omega.

dude if i could give you any pointers i havent yet tried, i would. it nearly drove me insane.

Just make sure if your using windows that you have background programs and stuff turned off ( the ones you arent using at the time)

there's a tutorial here in tips somewhere (toolbar at top)

hope you get it sorted. dont get discouraged if you dont, these Omega's arent recognised for doing much else than what youre experiencing.

Number one, why are you unplugging the thing, especially the USB cable? Simply shut your PC down and turn the power off on the Omega after the PC has been shut down. It sounds like you have buggered something up during the processes you have tried.

I suggest doing a full un install again. Only this time you will need to go into the registry editor and remove anything related the the Lexicon Omega or just Lexicon. This will allow you an absolute clean install. Then as I stated, do not unplug the USB cable at all. And don't power the unit down while the PC is running. That is a huge cause of problems.

Part of the problem with any of the recording work stations and the software is that they are extremely complex systems. Noize2u is right on and your system should work fine after you follow his suggestions. It took me months to learn enough about the Omega system and how to use it to get good results that I was happy with. Here is the catch it works like most other systems and is well worth the time and headaches it takes to learn the system. Any other system will take as long or longer to learn. The Omega is not a perfect system. But it is a fantastic unit at a very low cost that gives fantastic results. There are other systems out there that cost a lot more but the results will not be any better overall.

i wouldnt recommend anyone buy an Omega.

Its no secret i think they suck and for good reason imo.
for 150 odd dollars more you can get something that works and sounds better i reckon.

i tried 3 different units and they ALL were faulty, and that's before you can even get them out the door.

Then they are nothing but a pain in the coit to run, i was constantly having to reset things and and try to get the computer to recognise it.

IMO opinion they bite big time and "they" should have their asses sued off for keeping them on the market.

Maybe Smikalow you got one of the ones that actually does what it should, and record stuff.

Omegas: They are an awful unit. When you have to start rebooting by pulling power cords and holding down buttons, uninstalling and reinstalling software and drivers, and then enabling the usb audio in the CP every time you have to reboot the PC, you might as well buy analog machines and outboard gear which is more reliable than this turkey. I have sent mine in twice to have "the firmware upgraded", then it worked for a year and the same crap happens all over again. I switched to a Presonus Firestudio and after I got them to 'upgrade' their firmware after 6 months of customer service hassles, that unit seems to be working fine, and it should for over $400!! All in all, if anyone is serious about PC recording, get a MAC and an appropriate low latency interface, and save a lot of time as well as your sanity!!!
