I just used my pro 40 for the first time and ran my bass thru the Instrument line in and set the gain to 2 to see if i got a level and it clipped,ON 2,even when i was really light on the strings, even happened with my guitar. I tried my vocal processor and mic and put the gain up to 6 and it was muddy and distorted, wtf? Im seriously thinking about the Edirol Ua-101 which i was talked out of for this thing.

is your bass active? if so, then try backin' off the volume some on the guitar itself...runnng a pre amp into another preamp usually results in too hot of a signal.

just a guess

My Bass is not active and i tried it D.I. Its kind of worrying because focusrite are usually on the money with there Pre's.Ive read reviews that its not good for recording a fully Mic'd drum set but not for everything else.

ick....ummm yeah sounds like you have a bum pre....this was BRAND NEW? that doesn't sound right (no pun intended) for a brand like focusright.

got anyone that can look at it for you? like for free

Not for free no.I do have a warrenty but it takes weeks to get it back even if its a minor problem,i just have the worst luck with gear, especially this year. I thought maybe it was the firewire connection somehow but tha 40 doesnt have a standalone option to see if IT is the problem. Im still waiting on tech support from Focusrite so hopefully they can give me some options,Thanks man.
