Yamaha KX49 + non-Cubase programs...

Hi, I recently purchased a Yamaha KX48 midi device, and it came with a version of Cubase that wasn't compatible with my version of windows (Vista).

I've since tried numerous different midi sequencer programs and can't seem to figure out how to synch/connect the device with the program, or more simply, I can't hear anything when I press the keys (sometimes buttons on the device itself interact with the program).

Unfortunately the owner's manual that came with the keyboard only details how to synch it with Cubase and I have no idea how to set it up otherwise.

Can anyone help?
Much appreciated,
Erin.

Which programs have you tried?

( bump )

Noize is our resident midi guru, i've just done dibs and dabs, and usually in FL studio, which picked up my keyboard right away.

Hopefully he'll be along shortly, to help you out.

It would help though, to know which programs you want to use / or have tried.

Hey Erin, welcome to HRC first off.

That controller should have its own USB mdi interface which will require you to install drivers for it so it will be recognized by the system and any DAW/Sequencer you would use.

I'm a bit shocked they would sell you a product that is compatible with current OS's out there. But depending on the retailer I guess it happens.

Can you tell me what software you have tried so far?

WE can get you going pretty easy,l just need to know were your at with software and if the drivers are installed for the controller.

Have you gone into the FL options or preferences and selected the USB midi port that the KX is on for your input and output?

That is the usual problem if you have the drivers installed correctly.

Hi, thanks very much for the replies, I haven't had internet for a long while so haven't had a chance to reply till now.

Well, I downloaded a number of trail software programs, most of them whose names I can't remember, but that included FL studio and Cakewalk. I've gone into FL's options and from what I can see it doesn't recognise the keyboard? I definitely installed the driver for it. Like JimmyMorfin, many programs I tried recognised the keyboard and I could navigate through them with the arrow buttons on the keyboard itself but it's never made a sound when using the keys. The instructions unfortunately only explain how to install and set-up the keyboard with Cubase software - I've contacted the retailer but he doesn't want to know. It also came with its own usb mdi interface which I use.

Thanks very much for the replies and tips so far :)
Erin.

It more then likely will not show the keyboard by name. I think Sonar or Cakewalk products are some of the few that actually have intelligent driver naming.

But it should have something in the midi option's for a selection and more then likely that will be the KX. It will be in the midi input option's of any program for recording midi.

I'll ask as well. Did you run the driver install before pugging the KX in? Most often that is the mistake people make with the USB stuff like that. And the companies don't really make it very clear to do that.

As for the instruction's. Well as I stated above it is usually the same for finding and setting up the midi input output in the software. Its not going to be in the keyboard manual.
