Hi All,
I haven't seen a whole lot on this topic so if there are existing posts, please let me know....
Basically, to save money, I wanted to make my own 1/4 inch and XLR cables. Most of the sites that sell kits dont save you much money so I was wondering if any of you are making your own cables and if so, where is a good place to get the supplies?
Thanks

Jul 15, 2009 07:40 am Buying "kits" isn't really going to save you much...when I was doing this I'd just go to the local electronic supply store, not Radio Shack or strip mall stores, but most areas have some down town, single location store...buy a huge spool of cable and the jacks yourself, not kitted up, I've saved loads of money over the years that way.

Jul 15, 2009 11:48 am I got a 500' roll of mic cable from parts express. then got jacks and plates from them, and a few other places. I also got 1/4" jacks as well, and made my own.
I ran the cable in my walls, and also made up some mic cables. Not sure how much I saved, but I had to make them myself, as I was custom installing in the wall.

Jul 18, 2009 12:40 am I bartered on the labor, but re-cabled the whole place with Belden 1800F analog/AES/EBU (doesn't really get any better than that) for around $750. A fraction of the cost of the previous cabling, everything cut to length, color-coded shrink, Neutrik connectors, the works.
