I havent tried the new one, but it basically builds on everything that was lacking in the original. The software aspect of it since it has USB connection will also really give u alot of options to learn how to do midi work on ur computer and all that stuff

Yep, the XL is a good deal more capable then the old unit. I have heard it is a bit easier to edit now as well.
