BOSS BR1600 BOUNCING AND MIXING HELP NEEDED

Posted on

I just bought a BOSS BR1600 CD based on reviews and the promise of good bang for the buck. Nevertheless, I have found the instructions, including a 2-hour DVD tutorial to be less than intuitive and not well suited to a beginner. I have 2 major areas that are frustrating:

1) After recording our band, I cannot figure out how to "bounce" each of the 7 tracks so that they can be mixed and then mastered with the tool Box (another issue entirely).

2) I cannot figure out how to play my own individual tracks to make a song and then "bounce" those tracks to one of the stereo tracks (10/11; 12/13. etc.) so that I can hear all of the instruments and vocals together...and then to master that recording.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated, as this MTR seems to have great promise, but I'm struggling with some basics. The user guide is less than helpful and I need help fast.

Thanks,

Ronnie
Before you can create an audio CD it’s necessary to
combine—or “bounce”—all of your recorded tracks
down to two tracks in a process called “mixing down.”
By default, your mix is bounced to Track 9/10.
1. Press REC MODE to light the BOUNCE
indicator—AUDIO TRACK 9/10’s round button
flashes.
2. If you’ve already recorded on Track 9/10, select
a different pair of odd/even tracks for the
bounce. Press a round button belonging the
desired pair of tracks.
3. Press ZERO, and then press REC so it flashes.
4. Press PLAY to begin the mixdown—as the song
plays back, you can adjust the AUDIO TRACK
faders as desired.
5. Press STOP when you’ve reached the end of the
song or the point where you want to stop the
mixdown.
6. Press ZERO, and then PLAY to play back the
audio mixed down to Track 9/10.
Thanks for that quote, and I wish I could tell you that I had not seen that numerous times. For some reason, I'm not able to hear the bounced tracks, especially when I'm recording my own tracks. I have a feeling that I need more time with the manuals and maybe the DVD I bought. I'm just frustrated, and I have to wonder if the comparable TASCAM or ZOOM are this difficult to operate...

Again, thanks much.

The steps when using a Tascam or a Zoom are comparable. Basically, it looks more difficult than it is. Just invest some time in getting used to the process and understanding the logic behind it. Many times the manual is your best friend.

Thanks for that, Nightcap. One more question for now, if I may...to you and the Moderator.

I did manage to bounce my tracks and mix them! But now as I attempt to follow the manual to write to a CD, and I get to the "write speed" to burn the tune to a CD-R (52X), I am stuck at "24X," while the manual states that I should use time/value knob to set it to "8X." I'm stuck at 24X, cannot move it off of that, and my final disk is essentially empty ("disk error" is what my players are saying). I even went out and bought "slower" CD-R/W (12X) without any success...same story.

Thanks for thoughts.

Did you save the mix (master) as a WAV file before you tried to write it to CD? Normally you have to do that first and then burn a CD. When there is nothing to write to the CD that could explain the error.

BTW Please don't post questions more than once.

Thanks for the thought and sorry for the double-post. The manual says nothing about saving the master as a wave file first, but I'll keep trying.
