New Tune

Morning Gents. I'm partway through writing a new tune.

I've added it to my music as Interim Mix. Its just the main riffs mixed together at the mo, but when I have arranged it and added a bridge/middle 8 or to I recon it could be a good'un.

Tell me what you think of it and give me some suggestions on where you think I should go with it.

My initial thought it that the 2nd riff, kind of the pre-chorus (the one I think sounds a bit like Soundgarden/Sabbath) should be twice as long as it is.

The lead on the chorus needs redoing as it was a first take and I didn't really know exactly how I wanted to strike the notes and wasn't really concentrating on the wah wah.

Had a couple of listen's just now. I gotta give it a better listen tomorrow but on first listen I kind of agree on the part being longer, but I am torn. The second listen through it didn't seem like it was too short. But on the other hand if it were longer I can hear were there is room to do some cool stuff in it.

I kind of heard what your talking about on the wah part in the chorus. It was like you were hesitating here and there with it. I'd be waiting for it to close and it would just stop and not finish the wah for a couple of seconds.

Anyway, I liked were you are so far on it for sure. There is a lot of room there to get a couple different direction's if you wanted to.

Cool kind of stadium rockish sounds goin on, dig it, riffage is very sabbath as u said totally sweet

I would say ur lead in the "chorus" is just that, it sounds like straight up solo and the ending with the stabs on the floor tom would be a sweet end to a totally face melting solo.

so maybe u could not go to teh stabs just yet and keep the lead out of the chorus, then u could just arrange it as wat u have now beign verse, pre chorus, chorus, verse, prechours, chorus SOLO back into... chorus or u know something creative

that would be a whole song right there

IMO

Cheers guys,

Got a plan. First run through I'm just going to do the intro/verse and the current short version of the prechorus then straight back to the verse, same length as before but 1/2 of it with lead, then a double length prechrorus (1/2 with lead) and then the chorus! This will be followed (probably) by an interlude of sort, probably halftime, I may even dust off the accoustic, followed by a prechorus and a then a double length chorus, 1/2 of which will be as it is now, 2nd half will be a short bit of cockrockery with a solo!

Sorted. I don't mind having very few verse's as I don't have that much to say and can't really sing anyway!

Forgot to ask, what you think of my drum processing/sampling/looping. I'm getting better at it, trying to vary the hits I'm using a lot to make it more organic. Any tips of anyone who has done plenty of it would be nice.

I'll listen again a bit louder and comment on the drums. I was more listening to structure last night.

I like what you have so far. I agree that the prechorus could be a bit longer, cuz I really like that part. But maybe what you could do is have it short the first go round and maybe the second time you come to it could be twice as long as the first, or something like that, for variation.

Edit: Yon know that I didn't even realize the drums being programmed until you mentioned it, then it became noticeable. So, I think as long as you don't go telling everyone, they prolly won't complain about it.

Ya know I honestly hadn't noticed either on that first couple listen's. I think you have enough variance in the velocity and such that it is sounding pretty good.

To be honest when I program drums for something like that piece I will put in a certain amount of sloppiness to give it a more realistic feel. But they sound very good to me.

Cheers guys, thats actually really good that you think that.
I've always been a bit "shy" about my drum looping. When I do the full length version, which I hope to complete this weekend, I'll may add it a little extra sloppiness into the drums. Although I kind of like the tight, processed NIN type sound.

Oh ya, if its calling for it in your mind then tight is good as well. Either way is going to sound good. I was more stating my personal tactic on some music. Electronic stuff of mine always calls for tightly meshed drum and percussion parts.
