So...I have long had a mild problem with noise here and there. This time it was on an acoustic guitar track I recorded using a dean markley sound hole pickup. I am using cubase and tried their noise reduction thing but it actually took out some of the guitar as well. For the moment I just have the track fade in to make the noise much less noticable but I would really like a lot of help here. I am unsure of what settings to change or even what all of them mean. HELP!
thanks,
mike

From the guitar on.

May 29, 2009 03:43 am The best thing in this case would be the sony noise reduction plugin!
u feed it a part of the noise and it mathematically removes it frome the waveform!really effective!
does not kill the performance! i swear by it!
May 29, 2009 12:59 pm guitar/dean markley pickup - behringer mixer(I might have put it through the amp first instead, I don't remember) - delta ltlt card in the computer.
May 29, 2009 01:00 pm tinstryde, thanks I'll give that a shot...is it in there somewhere already maybe or do I have to get it?
May 29, 2009 01:04 pm Yeah, those sony pluggins are awesome.
Audacity is free and has some noize reduction tools as well that aren't too bad.

not sure wt u mean buddy!
May 29, 2009 02:57 pm Those are third party plugins that are purchased separately, not part of your program, if that's what you meant.
May 29, 2009 03:47 pm OF COURSE, the BEST way to reduce noise is at the source.
The best noise reduction algorithms in the world are crap by comparison. Sony's isn't all that spectacular to begin with IME. Very intrusive. Samplitude's native noise reduction, which is quite good, is still limited by the source. Izotope RX, one of the best out there, along with the Algorithmix plugs, are fairly amazing - Still, find out where the noise is coming from and stop it there. No plug on the planet will beat that.

May 30, 2009 03:19 am not sure if you have one or not, but try micing the guitar with a condenser mic. you'll get stuff all noise that way. you wont need to crank the hell outta yer pre.
