Speaker and amp setup

We are recently trying out some new speakers with our current amp. I have a QSC GX5 which is 500w @ 8 ohms, 700w @ 4 ohms, and then 350w @ 2 ohms. What's up with 350w @ 2 ohms?!! Wouldn't it be more considering the drop of impedance?

The speakers we are trying out are 4 ohms, but I plan to run them in parallel which then drops them to 2 ohms. I'm sensing a problem here as their RMS is 500 watts.

Got to love the switching amps.

Switching amps have this issue with lower output at low impedance. Just the nature of the beast.

But, you got to admit, beats taking a Crown 5000 out and about.

What the GX5 weighs about all of 15 pounds. Compared to the 85 that a 5000 weighs.

Still, I do agree with you on your assumption of the ohm load and rms output.

Does the company that you are looking at make an 8 ohm version?

You mean the company of the speakers? It's looking like I'll just have to run them off of each channel of the amp and not in parallel.
