I was looking round here and the SM7b was metioned, are there other good ones anyone can suggest?

I have a Rode nT1a atm. not really what im looking for for vox really, its kinda thin and brittle sounding.
I have a strong voice and sing with a fair bit of edge/screaming if that's any help.

im using a "JoeMeek Twin Q" pre amp, dunno if there is a particular mic that might work better with this?
end of tax year here in a month so wanna make the most of it.

suggestions would be great, cheers all.

I would piggy back on the SM7b for the type of vocals (a good dynamic works well for screaming vocals) or the EV M20 ,i think, is a good one too.

its cheaper, much cheaper it seems, to get one of these mics from the States and ship it here, than it is to buy one here.

these p***** here want 750aud and upwards for one, and over your area i can get one for 447usd. postage shouldnt cost more than a 50 i woulda thought.

M Neumann TLM-193 is the most amazing mic in the world.

But seriously now...

Vox male/female, acoustic, guitar cabs, bass cabs, bass drums, overheads.. this mic is incredible.

I mean the price is about $1600, but it will be the last mic you buy... unless you want to get two... which I did... or buy a U87... which I haven't... yet...

Awesome Deon! What a geat mic for what you're looking to do with it. I am just a little jealous, as I always wanted one of those. I had the joy of working with one once, and was very impressed. I was going to suggest trying to pick up a used Oktava MK-319, but you're spot on with that choice.

Yeah, it is BS what they make you guys pay for your gear over there.

But...

Uhm...

...can I borrow it? lol

I never liked the 193 for vocals... Nice for strings (YMMV). Keep the U87's also (except for classical or very instrumental vocals). The best vocal mic Neumann ever made (the U47FET) was discontinued.

Nice call on the SM7b though Deon - Still one of the best vocal mics ever at any price IMO/E.

If i dont have the mic this time next week, I'll email you my postal address.
then again it'll be on the box, so whenever you're ready.

good choice man. I love mine and for strong vocals it's badass. It's a great mic for loud vocals, and it's good if you have someone that doesn't know how to "work" the mic. I love it. Now I've become a fan of my Blue baby bottle for female vocals, that's just me, the blue bird works alright too. different mics for different people, if you can afford it. Now IMO if you cna only get one good vocal mic , the SM7B is going to be one if not your best bet in the price range. it does need a bit of gain but your Joe Meek should be able to handle it.
