Is there such a thing as a mini sound proof booth?

Hello, I live in an apartment with thin walls and do not want to bother my neighbors. Is there any product out there on the market that is something like a mini soundproof booth, preferably that I could move around. I just need it for vocals. If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Sound proof is a tough thing to achieve. You really have to seal a space up tight to make it even relatively sound proof. But I guess a guy in your situation definitely has few choices when it comes to making noise in an apartment.

Here's a plan for a vocal booth using 4x8 pieces of plywood as the main ingredient. That's a floor-to-ceiling hulk of a box, but who knows it might suit your needs (its a DIY project). I have NO personal experience with this, its just a Google hit:

Cool site though.

Complete enclosure is pretty vital for any reasonable measure of "sound proof." The rig in Tadpui's post looks like it might be "sort of" reasonable. It definitely won't be 'ideal' (as recording somewhere else would be), but it might take the edge off enough to keep the neighbors from calling the PD.

I didn't see a density on the CCF... I'm not even certain what would actually give it a NRC of 29, but it'd have to be some fairly heavy stuff to be sure...

Haha that's OK Herb. That little DIY box is a cool idea though. It's a great solution for those of us who are free to make all the noise we want, but have sub-standard acoustic environments in which to record.

At some point, I might give that a try. I keep shuffling around my recording equipment at home. My study has the nice computer (after a recent breakdown, its the ONLY computer) but horrible acoustics and very little room. My basement has bad acoustics (better than terrible though) and lots of room but now has no computer. Next time I try to record vocals I might give that box a try and see if it helps with my terrible acoustical situation.
