Ok I have a JCM800 series cab which has one 16ohm input. Im looking at the 900 series that have options of either 16ohm, 4ohm or 8ohm stereo. Would it be safe to plug my Mesa Lonestars 8ohm output into just one side of the 8ohm stereo configuration or not? I know this isnt recording related but this is the only forum im registered with. Oh and BTW anyone had experience with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers before? If so what are they like?

You could hit up the tech support at Marshall as well to check with them. I don't know really how they have the stereo outputs set up. But many times they use a left out as the mono output on some amps like that.

On the V 30, that is a top end guitar speaker indeed. I know a lot of guys that swap between that or the greenback's. I myself prefer the sound of the V 30 mostly depending on the head though sometimes. With a Marshall you can go either way.

I would suggest if you can find a cab to borrow with the V 30's in it give it a try and see what you think.

The way they set up the input to the cab, is that there is a switch that puts it in series or parallel.

When it's in stereo, you have two 8 ohm inputs, when in mono, it's an 16 ohm input.

You can put the Mesa on the 8 ohm side without issue. Just remember that you are only running half of the cab.

We have a few artist that do request this set-up. I have to say, that I have always felt that the Lonestar has always sound good on it's own. The two Black Widows inside have always sounded great to me.

But, it's your sound. And what you want it to sound like is the important part. The Vintage 30's have seem to fallen out of favor it seems. We don't get as many request for them here of late. Most seem to want either the Greenbacks or the stock Celestions.

But, once again. It's all about what you want. Give your Lonestar a try on it. See what you think.

I only have a lonestar head so I dont have the black widows. Also would I be able to run my JCM 800 into the other side of the stereo cabinet. As far as vintage 30's go, im considering them because of the midrange 'honk' everyone is talking about. To tone it down a little im also going to blend them with the G12-70's that are already in my JCM800 cab.

that's the way to do it though. a blend of diff speakers. i'd be interested to hear your's actually.

maybe give us a demo when you get it hooked up.

i'd also like to hear black widow's and celst. V30's in the same box. 2 of each.

anyone come across it?
or heard the 2 in a recording?
