hello guys, this is mainly a follow up to George, i just wanted to let you know that you were right. i just used my NTK for the first time yesterday, and it was exactly how you described. i was not impressed with it, and in fact, it was not the sound i was looking for, my marshall mx2001 gave me a better sound than the ntk. a bit too round and less wide (airy). i am now selling my ntk, and buying the AT4047 like you suggested.

Stupe, just to give thing's a fair shake, you really should try the MK-319. I can't remember if you were looking for a warmer fuller sound or what though. But if you can find an older Oktava MK-319 like I just did, it has got to have the thickest fatest warm fuzzy tone I have come accross in that price range.

Thanx for backin me on the Oktava collapse. stupe, you really gotta give it a fair shake, and like I said, if you can find one about 3 year's old, for some reason they have a sonic quality that is, very tube like. I use it with the Antares Microphone Modeler and the result's are stunning. And don't worry, the newer one's sound just as warm and fuzzy and full of ball's.

Hiya Stupe. Nice to know that our ears are kinda on the same page. Try to have fun with your search. Good luck, George.

Just to put in my 2 cents, I compared that Mk-319 and another condensor, the AT3035 and I found that they sounded very close. Almost identical to me. I am not sure totally because I was just in a sound room, but I had both the mics side by side and listening to each of them adn Iw as hard pressed to tella difference. Now, this was a newer one, so it may not have that sound like a tube that Noise described, but it sounded good enough that I bought it and I am pretty happy with the way it sounds, but I am not an expert. They were the same price and the 3035 came with a shock-mount, not that that is the really important thing, but the AT3035 handled higher SPL's so I figured I could use it for some other applications, like on an amp or I have even used it on a kick. Just another option for you.
