Song is called "Curse my name".

www.homerecordingconnecti...sic&id=4006

I watched "o brother where art though" last night and had a little inspiration this morning.

First draft of course, rough mix, will probably add a higher vocal and a better solo. But I'd say about 90% done.

I played and sang everything, there is no pitch shifting.

Composition critique is welcome. Mix not so much (I know it's boomy :)).

Might just be a bad song and your PC was working fine :)

No I'm sure it was the streaming, iTunes hogs all my bandwidth when she's grabbing podcasts. LOL

Well I tried it again just now, but it's playing really weird. It's all distorted and warbles (speed varies) and other assorted odd noises. The song itself is really cool, I think the compostition is great. Definitely a Gospel/Rock sounding song.

You nailed it man! I like the way it builds as it goes...great song! "Genre switch" at 1:58 caught me off my guard, but after a few more listens...it works! I like the way it goes back to the "gospel" sound at the end, but I think the ending of the song comes too soon. I was expecting a fade or ritard or something.

All in all...AWESOME song!

Man Jim, you nailed it on the ending. Listening last night it just seems to drop off, but I think I have the solution.

Remove the drums and let the guitar\vox fade it out. Perhaps just the vox itself. I'll mess with it and see, might need more. Suggestions are highly welcome.

And yeah, the genre switch was the tough part. I could hear it in my head but took me awhile. I knew I just wanted it really heavy sounding but not to take from the overall song.

yeah man that's really cool i dug it.

although i like the guitars when they heavy up, have you considered backing the ryth off a bit distortion and vol. wise, and made it kinda more a lead section, so leads more out front?

either way i really liked it.

is that you doing the xtra low bit on the vox int eh background? seriously cool...and

Freakin right on dude!!!!

The switch was something I was wqiting for right from hearing the guitar come in. As it built I had a feeling it would jump into heavy mode sooner or later.

I gotta agree the ending needs to carry out a just bit more. I like the idea of drums stop, guitars stop, vox fade away in a slow recession.

And the heavy does not detract from the soul of the tune either. It simply carries it off for a second into some deeper place. Then returns you back to where it began.

Ok, I think I have an idea and also will respond to the requested critiques.

First Deon, ther guitars are not exactly how I want them. I once again recorded a DI signal but slapped on a quick gearbox emulation. I am going to re-amp these through my vox and think that tone will make me much happier. I'm shooting for a badass clutch type tone. After that is done I will re-post for sure.

And yeah, that was me doing to super lows. Most out of breath I have ever been :)

For Noize and Jim, on the ending I am going to try having the drums and guitars stop "hard" after the third line, then do one of those long drawn out over the top last line of the verse to end it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

edit: Ritard, had to look that up :) I think my above idea is similar to it's definition.

That is awesome! I particularly loved the vocals on it. They turned out rather nice.

Yeah, the K2 is pretty warm when you get up on it. I was actually pretty happy with the tone.

Thanks for the listen, I still have plans and will repost when it's updated.

From the get, I want the lowest part of the vocals amped more. It sounds really cool, but I can barely hear it.
This is really entertaining to listen to. I also will support the heavy change part of the arrangement. Really cool. I think after the heavy part kicks in and then goes away, I think if you were to leave in some extra heavy guitar as you slide on out, that it would work better. But turn it down and let the vocals be the main part at that point. I'm not sure if what I'm saying is clear but...

I'm picking up what your laying down :) The second mix is coming, and I agree on the low vox. Heavy guitar on the outro? I can experiment for sure, I have a few ideas for the ending so we'll see which one takes. I am all for "what sounds best" and have no problems taking advice if it's good.

I can't wait to re-amp the guitars and make em thick, I think that will really fill out the heavier part along with an EQ'd bass line that is a little more audible.

All in all, the rythm is so simplistic I want the vox to lead all the way through (except the solo of course) as they really are the main point of the song.

Thanks for the input :)

Tripps, what coolo means is to have the heavy guitars as an underlying theme on the outro. They will be much quieter and undertoned then the voices. But ever so slightly audible to still give that impending heavy impression while the voices work their way out.
