Hi,
I'm a complete novice and need some advice. I'm trying to connect my laptop to a new KORG electribe ESX 1 so I can run samples into it. I only appear to have a headphone socket and firewire in my laptop, as well as 2 USB ports. Obviously, I need something to connect to midi. Would I need a USB to midi cable or is there a simpler way? Some sort of adaptor? Please let this total amateur know! Cheers.

If yoru going to transfer samples midi will not do that. The USB port will be the connection to use for that. I assume it came with a manual. All the info should be in there.

Anyway, the USB will hook them together to transfer audio data back and forth.
