G'day

Ive started out as a bedroom DJ and I wanted to record my DJ mixes to my laptop so I bought a Behringer UCA202 to use to record to. I had no problems recording at all and everything ran fine. My computer I had then was running an XP operating system and the harddrive crashed and it was cheaper to buy an new computer then repair the old one. So I bought a new computer with an VISTA operating system. The problem I am having now is when ever I connect any source to the interface. I get a loud humming sound, that I didnt get before. I downloaded the Vista drivers off the webpage and dragged the ASIO2KS into my system32 file. But Im still getting this loud humming sound through the speakers. Ive only just gotten into all this computer recording and really have no idea on what I am doing. So I was wondering if anyone out there could help me out? please!!

What type of speakers are you using? Are they powered or do you run an amplifier to them?

It sounds like a possible grounding issue but could be any number of things.

I think your actually right there! You got me thinking and I plugged another mixer into my UCA202 and not a sound. I think one of the earth wires in the mixer has come lose somewhere. Cheers mate!! Ive actually become addicted to this website now, its a whole new world for me. Thanks again

Swerve, I get emails of the original post's. So take the powered speakers into consideration as well. I would see you you can avoid any ground loops. I am guessing it may be getting caused by the new PC sound card or the way the MoBo is grounded.

Nice pjk, very nice.

Just wondering, how can I fix it if its the new PC sound card or the way the MoBo is grounded? Is there any way around that? Coz i really dont have a huge idea about alot of this stuff!

I wrote a post saying I have power speakers and the buzzing sound had only started since I got my new PC with vista. After I read Noise2u's post about the ground wire.. I changed over my DJ mixer and the buzzing sound stopped. So then I thought i was on a winner so I re-edited my post!

Im not sure how I would check my PC soundcard or how the motherboard is grounded?

pjk, I get email notifications and get to see their original post before its edited if that happens.

so no nothing dropped.

Swerve, if you can I would simply feed the outputs of the 202 into the mixer and use the mixer line outputs to the speaker's.
