Another new song (the vox are new anyways).

So I posted this awhile back without lyrics.

Me and some buddies wrote some "VERY" cheesy love song lyrics and had a go at it. For the most part I like it, a few anomalies here and there and the chorus is very loose.

Any comments on the mix, composition, performance are all welcome. We will redo some parts already, but hearing another opinion is always good.

Is called "No more goodbyes" and I will update it if we ever getting around to fixing it :)

To me, it seems the drums are a bit busy for the tune. I would keep them simpler, perhaps saving the fills and accents for later in the arrangement. Maybe turn up the vocals a bit.

The recording sounds good.

ah, its cheesy, i love cheese.
actually, its really good.

I think the drums are really good and play a big part in keeping the song rolling the way it does. I guess it just depends what your into.

Thanks guys,

On drums, that is the drummer from my other band in which he is insanely busy and funky. Honestly Herb, I was lucky to get as simple a take as I did (he really did try) :) On the vox, do you mean throughout the entire song or just certain parts? Honestly my brain probably tricked me into having the chorus a tad quiet as I'm not that pleased with the performance (looooose).

Really though, thanks for the listens.

Yeah, vox seem just a little buried during the choruses. Not much.

Have your drummer listen to Journey's greatest hits...

Haha, I can try but he is 22 and just a little bit punk rock. We will see :)

Thanks again.

I know this guy who just got his kit back up after it was sitting for about 4-1/2 years.

But seriously now on the song.

I do remember this, and I remember liking it back then and thinking it would be killer with a screaming Hammond B3 underlying in and out of the mix.

Musically the tune reminds me a bit of older Wallflowers stuff and that is were the B3 thing came from. The vocal's have a bit more power then the Wallflowers tune back then did though. And the guitars are a bit more powerful to say the least.

I'll agree it is some cheesy love song indeed. But I love the guitars and the overall arrangement of the song itself.

I personally love the guitar's, oh wait, did I say that already. :-) But the leads are very well placed and I personally like hearing more then one guitar solo in a tune. A tune like this needs to have it though to keep that heavier feel going.

On the chorus, I'm not sure they need to come up level wise, but maybe cutting them a whole in the guitar's is what is needed. That might be what Herb is hearing.

Overall, I love this tune. Hurry up and finish it and get it on a record so I can buy it.

Man, we just ran out of time last night.

I will get the second vocalist (higher toned chorus and bridge tracks) back over soon so we can tighten up that chorus.

I'm leaving my verses as is, they were easy and fit well enough.

Honestly I think the chorus could use a little restructure. You know how you have a song you actually like 100% through. Well this "was" that song for me. Maybe I'm being too critical, but that's what writing music is all about :)

I like this alot Cpt! I remember listening when you first posted as well, and the new vox are sounded good. I can't comment on the mix right now, my ears are plugged up, must be comin' down with a cold. Sounds good but right now I can't hear the higer frequencies very well. I do think Noize has it that you need to open up a hole in guitars for the vox, especially during the chorus. I couldn't really hear the solo at all (barely) but I think that's cause of my ears. :) A great effort, great song!

Thanks guys,

The solo... it may not stand out but is very audible. And yes, we tracked the vocals to a mixdown of the entire song, so some eq problems are definitely there. I will have to go back and rework the actual session and add the vox to it.
