So, I was listening to some 50's station yesterday and took some inspiration from it, here is the result.
I played all instruments, there are a couple slip ups. There was some minor EQ done, no real processing as far as comp, verbs etc...
Once again, I'm hearing a female vocalist in my head. Too bad I'm having trouble finding one I agree with.
What ya think? I like the blend between oldies and heavier rock and for once was happy with my solo. There may be minor changes, will have to see what the vox do to it.
Song is called "no idea", cause I don't have a name yet.

(Encoded at 128 just FYI) (Also, all guitar parts were re-amped with a hurry up mic placement)

Feb 23, 2009 03:59 pm Vintage EQ on the intro is already planned. This was just the tracking phase and the drums will be done by a real drummer :)
Thanks for the input. Oh yeah, what about the cymbals on heavier part didn't you like, the actual playing or the tone? I don't like the cymbal tone on my new config so much, will probably go back to the recorderman for my little room. X/Y works great in a larger room though.
Last but not least, god I hate Mustaines' voice :)

Feb 23, 2009 05:26 pm Totally cool indeed. I'm liking the fact you go back to the mellow for the outro. I think it works great. I'll be curious to hear where you go with this one.
On the cymbals, I didn't really notice anything real hideous, but I was listening kinda quiet as well.

Feb 23, 2009 06:33 pm i like it.
be really cool with some higher key singing on it.
it reminds me of old Maiden a quite a bit, especially the guitar tone.
will you put singing on it?

Feb 23, 2009 06:37 pm Ya know, I am running some pretty cheap cymbals. I guess nothing horrid, but far from the smooth\sizzle I would like. I think maybe he was referring to my use of ride vs. hats on the heavier part. Just a guess.
Thanks for the listen Noize, my only goal is to make it "not" sound like a weezer song. Cause I don't wanna hear "dude, sounds kinda like weezer" everytime I play it. I figure the vocals are the only thing left to keep that from happening :)
In response to cynic, yes on the singing. Want a female vox track as stated; but have a pretty good male vocalist coming over tonight for an attempt. Higher key with some projection would really set it off imo. Definitely harmony vox as well.

Feb 23, 2009 08:00 pm I like it, sounds kinda like Weezer! j/k. ;)
I think it will be killer once you get the vox on it. Real nice guitar tone, cymbals didn't bother me, I think the ride works fine for the song.

Feb 25, 2009 04:02 am What I've said about cimbals - they kinda interfere with guitars, at least on my speakers, but I've tried h-phones and the impression was similar (hmm, should I change my shitty gear?). ;)

Feb 25, 2009 11:34 am Not at all, personal pref I reckon.
But as stated, this song has not been mixed yet. Once some gong is removed from the cymbals and a little sizzle is added, I can probably drop them a tad in the mix.
But yeah, I am looking for composition feedback at the moment. I will definitely be back for mix suggestions once the vocals are tracked and it is polished.
